About Mandrake 'The Bill' Mcquackery
Mandrake 'The Bill' McQuackery came into care with our cat rescue (no really!) and has been hanging out with his foster carers hens since February of this year. He's been mostly well behaved after the girls gave him a good pecking until spring... now he's a dreadful pest. Since 'The Bill' has been trying to find love with the wrong species, we want to find hime a new home with female ducks that can give as good as they get, unlike chickens.
What 'The Bill' needs is:
- a pond or dam with a regular water supply, or failing that, a clam shell pool that emptied, cleaned and refreshed at least once a week
- with female ducks to bathe with
- regular feeding once or twice a day with duck pellets, along with whatever he can forage
- female ducks share breakfast and dinner with
- a coop or house that's secure and fox proof for him to sleep in at night
- preferably with some female ducks in residence for comfort
- a secure backyard or fenced property with plenty of fresh grass and greens to eat
- did we say female ducks? yes, please. Some of those!
Mandrake 'The Bill' McQuackery is an extremely good looking Cayuga breed duck, with glossy black plumage with jewell coloured highlights and a grey/black bill. His quack is quiet for a duck, and he's extremely decorative. He loves his daily baths and has a wash and preens while drying in sunshine whenever he can. He's not comfortable being picked up but likes to hang around his humans, and sits on the door step and next to the window being gently quacking or just being easy on the eye. He's never tried to fly away, but has been in a large fully cat proofed secure backyard.
If you've been thinking your ducks need a boyfriend, and your property needs eye candy, and you can meet his particular but not onerous needs (see list above), then don't hesitate... submit an enquiry now and meet Mandrake 'The Bill' McQuackery via our online service and see if he's the duck for you (and your girls)!
General information on the Cayuga breed from Tail Feathers Brisbane,
Cayugas appear black until the light hits them, then they show their beautiful green color. Their bills, shanks and feet are usually black. As Cayugas age they start to get white feathers, which can eventually take the place of most of their colored feathers, and their shanks and feet may take on an orange hue.
Cayugas also need protection from hot sun; shade must be provided when temperatures get high. They love to swim, so a wading pool is nice as long as the water is kept clean and the surrounding areas are not allowed to get muddy.
Cayugas have a quiet, docile temperament. When they are hand raised, they make wonderful, tame pets. With quality care, they live 8 to 12 years. Cayugas are a welcome, colorful addition to any backyard flock.
