About Red Dog
Red Dog is now available for adoption again after his adopted home did not work out
The handsome and super smart Red Dog is seeking his forever home.
Red Dog is a 4 years old Kelpie X.
Current weight 20 kilos so his a little man
Red Dog is a very well-behaved and intelligent boy. He doesnât require excessive physical activity and is quite content with his daily walks as long as his mind is stimulated. He is very people focused and craves time and affection from his family.
He will shadow you in whatever it is youâre doing - be in gardening, cooking and anything in between. He is a very gentle soul and will often just want to lay near you, or offer up his hand for you to hold. He truly the sweetest boy!
OBEDIENCE
Red is very switched on and well behaved. He has great recall and comes and sits when asked. Currently Red Dog is taken on 2 walks daily, usually 30 minutes each, and now loves this routine. He walks so well on the leash and has come a long way in his confidence, now enjoys interacting with new people he meets during his walks. He can still be cautious at times but is always curious.
ENRICHMENT
Red Dog requires enrichment from his people, another dog, and from mental stimulation you can provide. Whilst he loves being indoors with his people, he will cry at the door when left alone but does settle into his bed quickly after.
He isnât overly interested in toys however if given a bone or a loaded kong, heâs a happy boy!
SLEEPING
Red Dog spends the evenings inside with his family, and usually heads out outside for bed around 9:30pm. He sleeps until around 7am when itâs time for a walk. He doesnât bark at night whilst outside and is very happy to sleep next to the door. It can be a chore sometimes to encourage him to go outside for bed, although some food always helps with this. We recommend that he isnât in the house all day and night initially as he may get dominant about his space, recommending a gentle introduction ie evenings.
SOCIALISATION
He has built up confidence around strangers and starting to really enjoy getting pats from others whilst out and about.
Red Dog has displayed some anxious tendencies when left alone outside however settles and is quite happy to nap the time away.We found that Red will take a little time to settle in to a new home when left alone for long periods outside and might cry and bang on the door to come in. This has disappeared over time once he has settled in
Other dogs
Here is a bit of the tricky part
Red has been with 2 females as pictured and absolutely enjoyed the times he spent with them
While out on an adoption trial he did bite a male dog so we are thinking he might simply not like male dogs. With the females he was tested with he was a perfect gentlemen, Based on this part that we are not 100% if its just males or maybe females as well we are seeking an only dog home who has an experienced person to walk him to ensure that he can be solicited carefully just in case as we have only ever seen his be polite with others and are only going on what we were told from his failed adoption.
TRAVEL/CAR
Red has shown no issues when in the car.
IDEAL HOME:
We feel Red Dog would thrive in a home with a family that is regularly home and very inclusive. He will take a while to settle in upon arrival so his new family will need to be patient with him while he adjusts.
Red Dog wants to be part of the family and as such will need to be allowed inside (gradually)to bond with his family and give them all the love and affection he has. He really loves cuddles and hand holding and looks forward to having a new family to share his life with! Red
