About Henry ~ 1yr Old Jack Russell(On Trial 23/10/21)
Meet Henry, he’s a 17 month old Jack Russell X that loves attention, being busy and then relaxing on your lap or under the blankets to regenerate and do it all again.
Henry loves to play fetch, he could happily play fetch all day and will drop the ball on your lap to tell you it’s play time. He thinks it’s a fun challenge to try and get as many toys in his mouth as he can. Henry has the endless energy expected with a JRT, he runs circles around his border collie friend, and he will need a good variety of toys to keep him entertained. Henry is excited by walks, he needs this time twice a day to sniff and explore and burn off some
energy. After all this is done he loves to snuggle up and cuddle on your lap, or stretch out at the end of your bed.
Since coming to live with us Henry has shown that he can sit and wait for his dinner but has to eat out of a slow feeder bowl as he tries to eat his food as quick as he can so that he can get back to playing with his toys. He knows his name and comes most of the time but can also run the other way when you call his name especially if he knows you’re calling him to take him outside to go to the toilet. He loves being inside and will do anything to not have to go outside unless it is for a car ride or walk. Henry loves going for walks and is great on a lead although he can pull on the lead, especially if something smells good, therefore, Henry will need continued walk training. Henry can be nippy at times, especially when there is food involved or if you try to redirect him by putting your hands near his face. Henry can jump quite high and will jump to get what he wants.
Henry’s toilet trained but still has a few accidents inside still, so will need further training with this. In his previous foster home, he used the doggy door with no problems. He will bark to chat to the neighbours dogs and let you know if someone is passing, redirecting with going to his mat is helping. When the day is done Henry curls up with his blankets in his room, or if
allowed, loves to climb into my bed and sleeps at my feet under the blankets.
Henry’s forever home will be with someone experienced with Jack Russell Terriers, not someone who wants to experience a Jack Russell Terrier (please don’t apply if you have not owned a Jack Russell and do not know the breed and all their quirks). He needs to be part of the family and be in the home with his humans when they are home, he likes to be your shadow and with you whenever he can. He is still only young and will require more behavioural training, so his new owner will have to have patience and be willing to train
him. His yard will have 5 foot fences and plenty of room to play ball. (Unfortunately, rural fencing (eg: mesh or wire) is not suitable.)
Due to his jumping and occasional nipping his family won’t have children and preferably he will go to an only dog home or to a home with a confident larger breed dog, who also has a lot of energy and will happily play with him. He currently lives with cats that he loves chasing and licking and nibbling their ears. He’s never shown signs of aggression towards them, but the cats struggle to keep up with his energy. He has never been regularly left for extended periods so needs a furever home where someone is home most of time.
