About Alfie
Having been born on the Stockton Breakwall as part of the colony there, Alfie knows the meaning of sleeping 'rough'; being cold, taking shelter from the rain, hiding from humans and dogs walking past, sharing food with the crows, and of course they are lucky survivors of the awful cull last December.
We have been so fortunate to have fostered Alfie since April 23rd. Since then we have witnessed as he has gone from hiding under blankets in his crate to freely roaming and exploring our house like he owns it!
The transition was slow and steady and we knew from his behaviour when we were trying too hard with him and when we needed to pull back, but we were always consistent with our efforts in ensuring Alfie was able to thrive as much as possible in his new and very different environment.
Alfie is very independent as this is all he has ever known living on the wall. He is still acutely aware of loud noises and sudden movement, although this is steadily improving.
Alfie has his daily routines: breakfast, play, sleep, chill, play, sleep, eat, chill, (and loves to play while we are asleep!) and he enjoys finding a spot in the sun as he has a bath and looks outside, (eyeing off the bird life)!
Alfie loves belly rubs and head scratches and he purrs the moment you engage him. He will come to you for a 'head bump' and he will let you pick him up and nurse him for a short while. The length of time he stays when held seems to be increasing over time as he becomes more settled.
He shows trust by exposing his belly, and he loves this to be rubbed. He also loves his head and ears scratched and under his chin. You can also massage his paws. Having never been around humans before now, Alfie has never developed a 'meow'.
Ideally Alfie needs to be homed in a relatively quiet household with no young children and no dogs, although if you had one or more cats this maybe ok. Alfie is very independent so if you work away from home for the day he is completely fine.
Please note Alfie will need to remain housed indoors initially for his own safety. Even though he has been rescued off the wall and is now enjoying a more domesticated life he still has a way to go before he will learn to trust a new environment and become fully domesticated.
Adoption details
Our adoption process starts with a phone call, an informal chat & organise a time for a home inspection - this is the best way to ensure a good human/cat match. The adoption application is then forwarded to the Foster carer who will call to arrange a meet & greet. All going well you may be able to take your new furbaby home that day.
