About Thistle
Thistle is a smiley, sensitive soul, who absolutely adores humans. She is one of the smartest and most obedient dogs you will ever meet and picks up new commands with ease. Thistle is also very independent, displaying no separation anxiety, and has enjoyed snoozing the days away as her humans have returned to work.
Thistle’s favourite part of the day is her morning walk; she bounces around the house doing bunny hops with excitement, and she loves an adventure where she can sniff everything in sight. She currently has two 30 minute walks a day, and is quickly learning ‘leave it’ for when she doesn’t want to move on from a particularly good smell.
When it’s sunny, Thistle enjoys sunbathing outside in the grass, as well as all the compliments she gets from passersby. Her shiny coat does look amazing in the sunlight! She is the queen of zoomies, and often zooms around the garden when her human friends come to visit. Her waggy tail, puppy dog eyes and big smile are irresistible to everyone she meets.
Thistle loves kabana and roast chicken, and learns things very quickly. So far she has learnt ‘wait’ and ‘okay’ when crossing roads, ‘on your mat,’ as well as ‘off,’ for when she sneaks onto the sofa when you’re not looking. Thistle responds very well to routine, and to people respecting her boundaries.
Thistle finds some dogs quite scary, so prefers if you walk on the other side of the road with her. She is becoming very confident with ‘watch me’ to distract her from those pesky little fluffs. A true only child, Thistle has shown some resource guarding when sharing her toys with other dogs, and so needs to be the only dog in the home. But, with a personality as big as hers, you won’t need any others!
Shiny floors have been tricky for Thistle, but she is developing her confidence thanks to her HunnyBoots slippers. It’s important that she has her own safe space, and she prefers if you give her cuddles and pats when she’s not on her bed. She knows ‘up’ to get off her bed, and as she has shown some sleep startle in the past, prefers to be woken up with sounds rather than touch.
Thistle is toilet trained; due to a complication from her desex surgery, she suffers from incontinence. This is easily managed with a Stilboestrol tablet every 3 days, which she happily takes if hidden in something tasty.
Thistle is one of a kind and needs a forever home with someone who is patient, loving and a good listener. Once she trusts and loves you, she will be your best friend and soulmate.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
