Jake is a lovely dog who was adopted from SAFE as a pup (then called Bertram) and through no fault of his own has been returned.
Jake is a mixed breed dog and is medium in size, weighing around 18.5kg, but with short legs. Jake is a gentle dog and he can be a bit unsure of himself at times but is gaining confidence as he settles into his foster family. He comes to his name, will sit on command and loves being inside with his people. He is toilet trained. He is great with his foster carer's two dogs and especially likes the toy Poodle who he wants to play with all the time!
Jake has been around children and is good with them. As a young and lively pup he would need to be supervised around very young kids. He would love to join a household where he gets a daily walk and where his humans are around quite a bit for company as, like any young whippersnapper, he can get into mischief if left without people for too long. Jake is not suited for a home with cats or other small animals.
Jake has been diagnosed as having hip dysplasia. While he has good movement and no signs of discomfort, the condition may potentially lead to arthritis as he gets older. Many dogs manage well with the condition by keeping their weight under control, having moderate daily exercise to maintain their strength (avoiding high impact activities such as jumping when possible), using supplements such as fish oil, and pain relief if needed. There is, however, a possibility that surgery may be needed at some point as Jake gets older if he does develop arthritis that is no longer manageable with pain relief alone.
It is very important for Jake's prospective adopters to consider his medical issue before applying for him. His adoption fee has been reduced in consideration of his medical diagnosis.
Jake is a wonderful young pup and deserves a loving and happy home, so we hope there is a special family out there just for him.
MEDICAL NOTES
Adoption fee includes vet check, flea and worm treatment. Jake is up to date with his vaccinations and is sterilised and microchipped (transfer of ownership is included).
