About Snoop
Introducing our long-legged Snoop aka the baby giraffe. He is a 2 year old solid Mastiff X who currently weighs 31 kg.
Snoop is still very much a puppy at heart. He loves playing with his toys, loves playing in water, loves eating and loves being around people.Snoop can play quite rough. He can tend to throw his weight around without knowing how strong he really is, and it is for this reason that Snoop will not be suited to children under 16.
Since arriving Snoop has undergone a specialist surgery to remove a salivary gland that had abscessed
He has a full vet clearance
OBEDIENCE
Snoop came to the rescue with no obedience. Over time in his foster home he has perfected sit and has come a long way with drop and stay. Snoop’s biggest issue was that he loves to jump. He jumps up on people and sometimes jumps up on doors, windows, walls etc. so his jumping was an issue that needed to be addressed. Snoop participated in a professional training program to try and help correct this behaviour. After returning back from training camp, his jumping has settled down but still requires continued training in order to consolidate what he has learnt. Once Snoop has settled into his environment and gets comfortable with his people, his jumping settles down even more. We have no doubt that Snoop’s jumping behaviour can be completely eliminated with ongoing training and reassurance.
Snoop will require a firm, confident owner preferably with large breed experience. He still acts like a puppy in that he can be a bit mouthy/nippy but has never bitten down intentionally. He loves food and treats however we have found that treats during training make him too excited to actually focus on training. Therefore, Snoop gets his reward at the end of training instead.
He responds to his name most of the time but is easily distracted.
Snoop is equally happy being outside on his own. He loves playing with his toys and you can often see him throwing his toys up in the air and chasing them. He loves a good bone, dentastix, dried meat treat or kong to pass the time when you go out. Snoop only barks when people pass by the fence. He would make an excellent guard dog
Snoop absolutely loves other pooches and has never shown any aggression towards them. He does however play rough. Rough in play but is often the submissive dog in the scenario as he is the first to roll around on the ground under his playmates feet. We feel Snoop would be best suited to a female canine companion of similar size who would be happy to tolerate his robust play style. He is fine as an only dog
When out on a walk, Snoop walks like a charm. He is not an overly active dog. He doesn’t pull but instead likes to plod along and smell the flowers. When approaching other dogs or people, Snoop may pull a little out of curiosity but moves on quickly once past them.
He is walked on a harness with no problems.
Snoop loves when visitors come over. As previously explained he can tend to jump up on them, so will need firm commands to remind him of his manners.
Snoop has been tested with a dog savvy cat and even though he did not show any signs of aggression, we feel he would chase them out of play and could hurt them unintentionally.
We have also found that Snoop absolutely hates the lawn mower, whipper snipper and leaf blower. Snoop needs to be separated when you are mowing for his own safety
Once again, due to Snoops solid build, jumping behaviour and puppy tendencies he is not suited to children under 16 years of age.
IDEAL HOME
Snoop’s ideal home must include:
- Someone with large breed experience and can handle a strong breed.
- Someone who will commit to continue Snoop’s training to reinforce his manners.
- A firm, confident handler.
- No kids under 16 due to his excitable jumpy love
- Can be an only dog or a home with a female doggy companion who is the same size as him and would tolerate his rough play.
- A large backyard with a grassy area for play and toileting.
