About Rosie
Rosie
Rosie is a True to breed girl and we will ONLY be adopting her to an EXPERIENCED confident home !
She is extremely protective of her human and is very very dog reactive ...
Our recommendation is that she is muzzle trained for when out on walks
Rosie is a 10 month old German Shepherd weighing 24kg. She loves cuddles , toys and her humans being with her. It’s such a joy to have Rosie around, she’s so loving and has a gorgeous personality to match. She is the sweetest little lady with her smiling face who loves to follow you around with everything you do.She has spent all her time outside, occasionally barking at sounds and will make a great guard dog as she constantly patrols the yard .
OBEDIENCE
Rosie is great on the lead and will only pull if she sees another dog or anyone she feels threatened by as she has a very protective nature . In foster care we have been working on socialisation but this is the only thing needing work as she is generally a very well behaved young lady with basic obedience . She has learnt to sit , drop , stay and come as her commands . Treats have been a great enticement to her learning process and she’s very intelligent and quick to learn .
Ruby is eager to learn BUT can be very distracted by people and other dogs when out on walks When walking you must be on alert all the time as she sees things quicker than you lol
Her best home would be in an area where it is fairly quiet without the hussle and bussle of people and dogs walking around.
ENRICHMENT
As Rosie is still a puppy in nature, she needs a lot of toys and stimulation still to occupy her days . She loves any squeaky toy and although she is excited to play a game of fetch , she also enjoys anyone playing with her to do a lot of the chasing . Whilst in foster care she has learnt to fetch and will nudge you with the toy until she gets your attention and we are just beginning to master “dropping” the toy and sitting before the toy is thrown again . Rosie enjoys having a large fresh bone to chew on whilst lazing in the sun and will just place it amongst any toys she has out but does not bury them .
She is super eager to learn so this girl has great potential but again will need an experienced and confident handler
SOCIALISATION
Rosie will need some support and training when interacting with other dogs, On walks she barks at any dogs and anyone in the immediate vicinity of where we are walking .
When she sees another dog she is straight on defence and will stand up on her back legs and bark until the dog is out of sight. Although she pulls I have had no issue holding her and the best prevention is to walk the other way and the use of discretion with treats to redirect her attention
As said earlier we strongly recommend muzzle training for her when out of the yard
Introductions to new people need to be done in a calm and controlled manner. We found that a stranger reassuring her with kind words and treats and after a few minutes she then warms up and is very friendly
She is living with a cat but will chase if the cat runs so a home without cats is probably best.
Although Rosie is living with teenagers we strongly feel that she is best in a home with no kids so that she can be the primary centre of attention for ongoing training in her social skills
SLEEPING
Rosie has been residing outdoors and although she has been offered a bed and kennel outside, she is reluctant to use these and best settled with a fluffy blanket outside at the back door step as she loves to hear and often see her people and their noises overnight
While in foster care we had an attempted break into the yard and this was very quickly abandoned once Rosie caught them ....She is a great watch dog...
EXERCISE
Rosie has been going on 30 min
