About Jaxx
Current Weight
27 Kilos
Based on his age and weight we feel he will grow to a larger size med boy approx 30-35 kilos
Jaxx is a spunky 10 month old Louisiana Catahoula who is full of love and energy. He loves to follow his foster fur brother and humans around the house and will shower you with lots of love. He is super friendly with the resident cats and knows to stay away from the grumpy one, after receiving a few taps on the nose. When someone leaves the house Jaxx will run to the window and give a bit of a howl to let you know that you will be missed and upon your return he will show you just how much he has missed you. He loves his pats and belly rubs and a big scratch behind the ears.
Obedience
Jaxx is a clever boy who is able to sit, stay, shake, roll over and lay down. He loves to chat; he is especially vocal when told to get off the bed. He is not a big fun of loud noises and will bark to let you know. Jaxx will need someone who has lots of patience and strength when walking as he is a big puller on both harness and collar leads, he loves to sniff and can’t wait to find where a certain smell is coming from. He loves toys and the destruction of toys. As Jaxx is still young we have had a few incidents of destructive behaviour when left for long periods. for this reason, we feel Jaxx will do best with another dog of similar size in his forever home. Jaxx has been living with 3 children aged 13, 9 and 6 and has been wonderful and gentle with all of them. Jaxx can be a bit jumpy, we have noticed that when he does jump on you, he is really gentle and with a firm NO he will stop. His recall will need some more training, as his desire to find those smells over rides his listening skills.
Enrichment
Jaxx has lots of energy and loves to do zoomies around the yard, he loves his walks (a work in progress) and being around other dogs. Jaxx will need someone at home more often than not as he requires lots of stimulation and to stop him from finding his own forms of entertainment which could include dragging clothes from the clothes line and destroying toys and digging. If anyone comes near the house Jaxx will let us know, he will bark at birds and if he hears other dogs, he has now started chasing balls and will return sometimes.
Toileting
Jaxx came to us not house trained and we have been working on this with him, he does great throughout the day as we leave the sliding door slightly opened and he will just slide it enough to get through, however we are still having some accidents throughout the night, so training needs to be continued.
Sleeping
Jaxx sleeps inside all night, we have been doing a toilet run around midnight and he will go straight back to sleep. He sleeps on a large dog bed in the lounge room and sometimes will come into our room to sleep with his foster brother.
Socialisation
Jaxx is super friendly and loves to run around with his foster brother a Lab X. Both boys become best buddies upon their first meeting, he loves other dogs, and we will often have the neighbour’s dogs come over for a play. he has shown no aggression towards other dogs when we are on a walk, he will try to say hello and can becomes super excited and start pulling really hard, we have been shorting his leash when other dogs walk past to have a better hold on him.
Ideal home
We feel that Jaxx will thrive in a home with another dog of similar size, a family that will include him into their everyday lives and provide him with the love and care that he deserves, and in return he will love you unconditionally.
