About Oscar ~ 2 yr dingo x ~ Private adoption 12/12/21
Oscar is a 2yo dingo x cattle and such a handsome little man with a beautiful, gentle but shy nature. His goofy smile and snaggle tooth melts your heart. It will take a very special person/people to bond, understand his needs and build trust.
Typical of dingoes, he is very timid and cautious of humans but finds comfort in his canine friends and loves nothing more than a fast game of zoomies! For this reason, he will need to be paired with another young dog, dingo or hybrid that matches his energy and play. His best friend is a young kelpie but still needs to learn that nipping at heels is not always the best way!
Oscar had a very rough start and slowly learnt to walk nicely on lead, has decent recall and knows basic commands. He loves a car ride and the wind in his fur. Oscar will continue to need dedicated training and socialisation to ensure he reaches his full potential. He is very food orientated, has quite the appetite and responds well to calm, positive, reward based training. You will need all your patience as it’s slow and steady with this little cutie.
He has ‘klepto’ tendencies and loves to chew so watch your shoes! He has improved dramatically but still finds the act calming when anxious so needs a variety of chew toys as well as enough room to bolt around and play his funny games. He will make you laugh with his snuff howls and uncoordinated stunts.
Secure 5ft+ fencing is ok as long as it is all the way to the ground and a large yard is a must. He has typical dingo boisterous play, goes straight in for rough and tumble and has not shown an overly strong prey drive. He loves making friends with other dogs at the dog park and beach. Oscar is not suited to a family with young children or a loud, hectic environment. Calm is key for this special boy.
Dingoes cannot process fat or digest starchy carbohydrates such as grains, root vegetables and any processed foods. Unlike domestic dogs, specific types of fresh grass is also a key part of their diet. Just as you don’t feed a lion cat food, you don’t feed a dingo dog food. We will provide guidance on his current diet to keep him in good health.
As he warms to people, he will show affection with eye contact, kisses and lean into your side for scratches as long as there’s no fast movements! His instinct is a flight response or freeze if there’s no escape option. Dingoes tend to bond best with women or non dominant males. They are unique animals, not like a dog and therefore not suited to everyone.
