Jessie

JESSIE is a very docile and well-mannered 8yr old female Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Leggy and lean, she is about 25 kgs and somewhat smaller than a purebred Ridgeback, although she has the distinctive ridge running down her spine and the gorgeous wheaten coat of the breed.

Jessie has lived happily and securely in a family environment since she was rescued half a dozen years ago as a stray in a country town. She was very reluctantly surrendered to us recently due to a change in her family's circumstances and definitely through no fault of her own. Her surrendering owners have told us they believe she is crossed with whippet, which may account for her svelte figure.

There's nothing not to love about Jessie. Her temperament is even, calm and placid. She is patient and reliable with little children and great with other dogs, though not at all keen on cats.

She walks very well on a lead, but does not require a great deal of exercise, particularly if she has access to a good-sized yard.

Her foster mum says at heart she's "a big lap dog" and given half a chance would climb on your knee for a cuddle. An undemanding girl, she is happy to lie at the feet of her favourite human or stretch out in the sun and snooze, but she's never far from her human.

In short, Jessie is the perfect companion dog - loyal, affectionate and reliable. She is a low maintenance homebody and doesn't wander or dig. She rarely barks, other than to warn of a stranger or danger approaching. She is house-trained. In Winter, she likes to be rugged up well as she feels the cold.

Her perfect home would be with a retired person or couple who are home most of the time. She would be happy to have a canine companion, but would do just as well as an only dog. As always, secure fencing is essential, though Jessie is not a fence climber and respects her boundaries.
