About Lexi ~ 3yr Old Mastiff X(on trial 13/1/22)
This is Lexi a 3yo Mastiff X with an affectionate, friendly and exciteable nature. Lexi is mostly obedient and quiet, enjoying lots of cuddles with people and toys, being brushed, and being close to her foster parents most of the time. Lexi loves all people she meets, doesn’t jump up, and is very gentle. She is pretty chilled most of the day and very rarely barks, but does have the occasional burst of energy to answer the door bell, wrestle with her toys and play chase.
On walks, Lexi is strong and tries to pull, however her new front clip harness keeps her in check and makes walks enjoyable for her owner. Lexi responds well to persistent positive reinforcement training as she is very treat motivated. Unfamiliar dogs make Lexi anxious and very distracted, and she prefers to be kept at a very safe distance (min 4 metres) from them on her walks and never approached. For Lexi to enjoy her walks, she must be walked in an area where she will have minimal exposure to other dogs such as a large on-leash park or paths with few other dogs. If you can take her on a run, she will probably be much less distracted by passing dogs. She doesn’t like small dogs or cats at all, however can become friendly with medium to large dogs over time if given a very slow gradual introduction on lead.
Lexi grew up with two male dogs who she adored, so should suit living with a calm, non-reactive, medium to large male dog. Alternatively, her owner will preferably be home most of the time as she is not used to being alone much. If left home alone she will remain calm as long as she has enrichment treat toys and has access indoors.
Here is Lexi’s wish list:
To be welcomed inside, the more the better
Someone who doesn’t leave her alone for long periods very often
Potentially living with a calm male dog to keep her company, although this would need to be tested through a slow gradual introduction
An active owner with previous experience training dogs and a commitment to ongoing training, enrichment, and positive reinforcement (she may do well accompanying you on a run on a lead)
Patience, lots of cuddles and affection
High solid fencing
No cats or pocket pets (not tested with chickens)
