About Evie
Evie is a stunning 3-year-old cream kelpie, who loves people and belly rubs – which is a good thing, because she has the softest, silkiest coat you have ever felt. This gorgeous girl is looking for a very special home – please read her full profile before deciding whether to apply.
Evie loves to play! She enjoys playing tug or fetch, jumping on the agility equipment, or sniffing out food hidden around the garden, but nothing makes her happier than when the flirt pole comes out.
She’s not a high-energy kelpie and has a great off-switch. Once she's had her daily exercise, Evie will contentedly sleep the day away while I work from home. She is very settled at home, is toilet trained, and has excellent inside manners – she never destroys anything that's not a toy.
Evie loves her training. She is crate trained and can sit, drop and go on her bed with duration until released.
Evie came to us with significant reactivity issues to things that move and make noise (cars, bikes, mowers etc). She and I have worked very hard on this over the past few weeks. She can now walk nicely on lead instead of trying to chase cars, and will hold a down/stay on her bed when I'm doing anything scary like use the vacuum cleaner, whipper snipper or leaf blower. She is progressing really well with her car travel, and will generally lie down on the back seat instead of trying to get the cars whizzing by – this is still a work in progress, however.
But, although Evie very much understands what's expected of her, these were ingrained habits with a lifetime of practice. Her new family must be willing to continue this training and to keep building her confidence, so that she doesn't revert to her old ways. I will provide advice on how to do this, but seeing a balanced trainer as soon as she arrives is a must, to set her up for success.
Evie is looking for a home in a quiet suburb or regional or rural area, without too much traffic, where she will be able to enjoy quieter, less stressful walks. She will need a home where no cars drive along her fence line, as those are too hard to resist chasing when outside unsupervised.
She will need to be allowed inside as part of the family, in a home with no other animal, as she finds living with other dogs stressful. She is fine walking past dogs out on walks – she just prefers them at a distance. But when friendly off-lead dogs have run up to us, we have had no problems saying hello and moving on.
If you think you can provide Evie with the structure and training she needs to shine, send us an application.
Evie is located in the ACT
Adoption details
To apply to adopt a dog from Dogs4Jobs, you must firstly complete our adoptions application form in full at http://dogs4jobs.com.au/adoption-form/.
You can also write out your answers and email them to dogs@dogs4jobs.com.au
*Please note, due to the high volume of applications received, we will not respond to Petrescue chat messages, or enquiries to adopt a dog. You must complete our adoptions form to be considered for the dog or pup, and we will respond to this form via our email.
We will then request to complete a yard check, or for you to send in photos of your yard showing the fencing, space, shelter and any hazards etc, to confirm it is safe and secure, as well as adequate space for a working breed dog.
Following this, we will then put you in touch with the dog/s foster carer/s that you are interested in, to chat further over the phone, about whether the dog is a good fit for your family, and vice versa. We are searching for the perfect match for each dog and their needs. A meet and greet can be arranged if both parties wish to proceed, and we also offer interstate adoption on all of our dogs.
