About Mikey
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Mikey
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Terrier X
General terrier breed traits: they come in all shapes and sizes and were bred for different reasons but many were for farm work or ratting. Today they are mainly companions. Terriers are generally high energy, very bright and quick to learn but can be stubborn. They have strong personalities and a sense of fun and want to be included in everything you do. Don't take on a terrier unless you really do want a companion.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, friendly, outgoing, obedient, confident, sweet and playful! Mikey is an absolute darling who loves everyone he meets.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Playtime and cuddles! He loves to play tug of war and chase and is an expert at fetching sticks! He’ll also follow you around waiting patiently for a pat. He rolls over for belly rubs and loves curling up on a lap for cuddle time.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s extremely easygoing and loves to be around his people.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs and loves to be in their company to play. He will bark back if a dog barks at him, but not in an aggressive way. He lives with a cat in his foster home and they get along well together so he should be fine to live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle supervised introductions.
GENERAL INFO: Mikey walks quietly on his lead and is housetrained. He’s generally quiet but will bark at noises or when someone is at the door. His command training is coming along nicely but will need further work from his new owner.
ESSENTIALS for Mikey:
- a home where someone is there for most of the day or can take him with them when they go out - he loves to be with his human
- commitment to continued training so that he can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment making up for lack of early constructive input
- daily exercise such as a good walk or run twice a day to keep him happy and healthy
- a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff and explore
- to be allowed inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside at night and be included as part of the family
Mikey would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 6 years of age and could live with a youngish female doggy friend, after gentle introduction.
If Mikey sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
