About 🍞Tonks 🍞
PLEASE NOTE: Only enquiries that are accompanied by a completed adoption questionnaire (https://www.squishiesrescue.org.au/adopt-squishy-dog) will receive a response. Adoption questionnaires that clearly demonstrate Tonks' profile hasn't been read in full will not receive a response.
Tonks, formally known as Tonka, has been on quite the journey. He came into care at 6 years of age, severely overweight and with an untreated skin infection.
His foster family has helped give him a new life, with daily medication, twice weekly medicated baths and a limited food / exercise regime. He has lost over 5kg, his gorgeous coat is silky smooth and his breathing has improved dramatically.
Tonks just wants the simple things in life: a cosy place to nap, a quiet home, regular short walks and a lap to sleep on. He would prefer to be an only dog, but would consider a home with another small dog - as long as they don’t want to play! He wants a home without young children, they are just a little bit too much for him. While we haven't officially 'cat tested' Tonks, we have no reason to think he wouldn't be happy to ignore them too!
He walks on a lead, as long as you’re happy for him to sniff every tree and blade of grass as you go. He has been to off lead dog parks without issue, and quite enjoys the socialisation - mainly with people!
TONKS ISN'T FULLY HOUSE TRAINED YET. When first in care, he ‘marked’ everything that had a scent on it. Now, if he is let outside regularly he will utilise that time, but doesn’t know how to let you know he needs to go outside. His foster family has a dog door, but he’s never been able to quite work it out. Tonks will need to continue his house training in his new home. If this is not actively done, he will not work it out on his own!
MEDICAL NOTES: Tonks is a pug, and they come with their own breed complications. From head to toe: his eyes have black pigment through the middle section, which is the eyes natural protection from being unable to close (thanks to the pug bulge), which gives him restricted eyesight. His hearing is not fantastic, but he is not deaf. From what we are aware, he has had repeated, untreated, ear infections. It can definitely work in your favour if you are trying to sneak by without interrupting his nap.. Tonks’ skin is 99% improved from when he came into care - as a preventative measure, we would recommend a medicated (Malaseb) bath once a week. Finally, weight. Tonks’ weight gain was most likely caused by repeated steroid prescriptions. However, regular exercise and measured meals are a must - he isn’t the kind of dog you can sneak snacks under the table or leave food out for him to graze.
Tonks really is just starting to find the dog he can be, and wants a home where he can thrive.
Tonks is in care in Trafalgar - You must be prepared to travel to Tonks' foster home for an initial meet, we will supply covid safe info to successful applicants.
