Introducing the lovely Lexi. I am a happy, sweet, smart, curious, independent, confident & energetic girl. I love humans & dogs & am always up for a game of tug-o-war & zoomies around the yard. I can get bossy with other dogs if they get too rough or silly. I sit patiently for my treats & gently take them. I love the garden & yard, chasing lizards & exploring my surrounds. I’m also equally happy, snuggling up on your lap for cuddles. I’m very affectionate. I am an inside and outside dog. My skin gets a bit itchy if I spend too much time outside. I fancy myself a bit of a guard dog, I’ll bark you an alert.
I would love an active home with someone who will include me in their adventures. I would be suited to a family, who will take me on long walks & adventures. Hiking trips would make for my favourite days. You’ll have to make sure you have me secure though, my little ears makes it easy for my collar to slip off, and if I get free the real adventure would start! You better hope you can keep up. I don’t like to be left alone all day, every day without someone or another dog to provide me stimulation & plays. I may jump up a little with very small children to give kisses & cuddles.
I love the car, and get very, very excited, at the prospect of a drive!
Breed experience is essential if applying for Lexi. People tend to be drawn to terriers due to their size but there’s more to them than that. To give you an idea as to why we request breed experience here’s some info from the AKC website: Feisty and energetic are two of the primary traits that come to mind for those who have experience with Terriers. In fact, many describe their distinct personalities as “eager for a spirited argument.” Bred to hunt, kill vermin and to guard their families home or barn. Prospective owners should know that terriers make great pets, but they do require determination on the part of the owner because they can be stubborn and have high energy levels.
Lexi’s home environment is going to be the determining factor to her successfully living a happy life and preventing undesirable behaviours. She needs plenty of room to run and burn off excess energy, preferably in a controlled manner as this will exercise the brain as well. Games with rules benefit your dog as they are mentally stimulating.
Her ideal set up would be in a low foot traffic area with a gap free fence so she can not see through. Mesh, wire or large gaps between pailings won’t work for Lexi. A see through fence will result in fence running and barking, which will trap Lexi is a constant state of arousal making her overly reactive to her environment. Inside time, especially at night, is a must for Lexi.
As always we recommend attending obedience with Canine Training School. Not only does obedience school help you build a bond with your new dog, it also offers some ‘trouble shooting’ as you have access to dog trainers whom you can ask questions and they can help you set your expectations from the start.
