About Alfie and Albie
Introducing Alfie and Albie!
These two brothers are approximately 2 years old.
Having been born on the Stockton Breakwall as part of the colony there, these two boys know the meaning of sleeping 'rough'; being cold, taking shelter from the rain, hiding from humans and dogs walking past, and of course they are lucky survivors of the awful cull.
We have been so fortunate to have fostered Alfie since April 23rd, and then Albie 3 weeks later. These last 4 months have seen these boys go from hiding under blankets in their crate to freely roaming and exploring our house like they own it!
The transition has been very slow and has been achieved by allowing the boys to develop at their own pace. Being breakwall cats they are not naturally domesticated and so we were learning how to engage them at the same time as they slowly learned about life being fed and cared for.
We knew when we were going too fast and when we needed to pull back, but at the same time we were being consistent with our efforts to ensure they were thriving as much as possible in this new and very different environment.
Their forever home will need to show them this same level of patience and commitment as well.
To ensure they can continue thriving they will need to be homed together; they love to play wrestle and chase each other and when they run out of energy they sleep together.
They are both very independent as this is all they have ever known living on the wall. They are still acutely aware of loud noises and sudden movement.
Both have their daily routines: breakfast, play, sleep, chill, play, sleep, eat, chill, (and play while we are asleep!) and they enjoy finding a spot in the sun as they bath themselves and look outside, (eyeing off the bird life).
Albie still hisses when we put his food bowl down, although this is getting better over time. We can approach him slowly with one arm extended with some 'Creamy Treat' on our fingers, and he will come and sniff and then lick the treat from our hands.
Alfie loves belly rubs and head scratches and he purrs the moment you engage him. He will come to you for a head bump and he will let you pick him up and nurse him for a short while. He shows trust by exposing his belly and he loves his belly to be rubbed, his head and ears and under his chin being scratched. You can also massage his paws.
Alfie does not meow or talk at all Albie gives a little meow when you feed him
Ideally they need a to be rehomed in a quiet household with no other animals, no young children and no dogs, although if you had one or more cats this maybe ok.
Patience is the most important requirement. These boys are very independent so if you work away from home for the day they are completely fine.
Albie does have certain dietary requirements which we have found over time, as he has shown he has a sensitive tummy. Both love creamy treats ('kitty crack' lol), although we limit the amount we offer Albie as this may upset his tummy occasionally.
Please note these boys will need to remain housed indoors for their own safety. Even though they have been rescued off the wall and are now enjoying a more domesticated life they still have a way to go before they will learn to trust a new environment and become fully domesticated.
If you are after a pair of beautiful boys who are easy to look after and very independent, but who fill your cup just by looking at you, then you have found them!
Alfie in particular has demonstrated he is very capable of trusting humans, and his brother Albie is following along nicely. They are finally learning how to appreciate feeling safe in a loving home with a warm, cosy bed without having to hunt for food.
Both Alfie and Albie are desexed and dewormed and ready to meet their new owners.
Adoption details
Our adoption process starts with a phone call, an informal chat & organise a time for a home inspection - this is the best way to ensure a good human/cat match. The adoption application is then forwarded to the Foster carer who will call to arrange a meet & greet. All going well you may be able to take your new furbaby home that day.
