About Rusty
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Rusty
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Jack Russell X Chihuahua
General breed traits: Jack Russell Terriers are lively, independent and clever. Trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. JR Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. They can exhibit 'small dog syndrome' unless well socialised so may be reactive to larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored. Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must.
Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, but are dogs, and can be problematic if overindulged. They love their family but can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas are not outside dogs due to intolerance to cold and heat. They are bright and willful but quick learners and will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities.
ASSETS: Easygoing, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, outgoing, sweet and playful! Rusty is an absolute darling who loves everyone he meets.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Teddies! He loves to play with his teddies and stuffed toys. He also enjoys cuddles with his people and never says no to a lap! He also loves to travel in the car, and happily joins in doing zoomies with the other foster dogs in the house.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He's extremely loveable!
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other dogs generally but prefers females as he 'marks' his territory when he's around boy dogs. He is overly focused on cats and small animals and will give chase so these are a no-no in his new home.
GENERAL INFO: Rusty walks quietly on his lead and is housetrained. He's generally quiet but will bark when someone is at the door. His command training is coming along nicely but will need further work from his new owner.
ESSENTIALS: Rusty needs:
- a home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis or can take him when they go out.
- an owner who will continue to train him - he is bright and would enjoy the interaction and bonding.
- daily exercise of one or two walks a day and playtime in the garden.
- a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff and explore.
- to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses and to sleep inside at night.
Rusty would go well with dog-savvy gentle children over 6 years old and could live with a youngish female doggy friend, after gentle introduction.
If Rusty sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
