About Cheetah
All About Me and My Unique Personality:
Cheetah is a gorgeous senior cat with a soft, tortoise shell coat. You wouldn't believe that he's 14 years old! He looks very young for his age. He's quite shy and can be skittish with new noises and movement but in the right environment will be very affectionate. Being older, he doesn't have a lot of energy for play throughout the day, but when he's ready to play he'll let you know with a meow and tries to get your attention. He has occassionally bitten his foster carers' hands when he wants to play, so be watchful for signs that he's ready to expend energy (usually at night or the early hours). So far he has enjoyed toys that involve his humans, such as a mouse at the end of string, as opposed to cat-only toys. For the most part he enjoys sleeping or receiving pats.
Cheetah appears to be developing into a lap cat. When he feels comfortable in his new space he will sleep on the bed with his humans, and has shown interest in sitting in his foster carer's lap. We think that with more time he'll be quite content sitting on laps or at least joining his humans on the couch.
Please note that Cheetah had dental work completed on Tuesday 7 September so he now has lovely, clean teeth.
My Ideal Home:
We've learned that Cheetah prefers a quiet household. At the moment he lives with two adult foster carers who don't have other pets and he has slowly come out of his shell with each day. His forever home would ideally be a peaceful one, with carers that have patience and are willing to give him the time needed for him to feel comfortable. Though it will take a little bit of time for him to come out of hiding, once he does it's a very special feeling to know that he trusts you and he'll strut around the house like he owns it!
Despite gaining confidence with his two foster carers, Cheetah still gets scared when guests/tradies come to visit. Once he knows it's safe to come out again, he'll be pottering around again.
What is Known About My Background:
Cheetah entered the care of HAR after his owners had to move homes and unfortunately couldn't take him with them. He was initially fostered by a loving carer who already has pet cats and a dog. Though our first foster carer saw that he was a beautiful cat, she wondered whether her busy household was too much for Cheetah as he hid a lot and didn't seem to be comfortable with the resident animals. Cheetah was then moved to a second foster home (the current one), which was much quieter and he has been getting more brave with each day.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets:
Cheetah MAY be ok with another animal if they're quiet and don't run around a lot. When Cheetah was with his first foster home, he interacted with one of the resident cats briefly. He tolerated the other cat, however, he was not a fan of the resident whippet who has a lot of energy. Whenever he sees a dog outside through the window, he will stay very alert or even run and hide. Cheetah seems to prefer a quiet, calm household, so other family members would need to respect his timid nature, but also have time for interactive play.
