About Dewey
Dewey is an absolute sweetheart. He has a very goofy personality and provides lots of laughs. He has big flappy duck feet, wonky ears, and a massive overbite. He is absolutely adorable and everyone who meets him falls in love with him.
Dewey is a typical teenage pup and loves to play. He adores his toys and will constantly play with them when he is awake. He is a kleptomaniac and will steal shoes and clothes to hoard on his bed (he doesn’t destroy them)
He attends doggy day care and loves it. He was very nervous at the start, but he eventually relaxed and has an absolute ball. Without another friendly and playful dog, Dewey will need a lot of toys, kongs, puzzles and playtime to keep him entertained. He is more confident with another dog so a home with another playful medium or large dog is ideal.
Dewey is noise sensitive out on his walks. He is fearful of loud noises, such as trucks, motorbikes, people talking loudly and children playing. He will freeze on his walks if he is fearful of these noises. He does much better with another dog and walking in a familiar and quiet area. He is very friendly towards all people and dogs on his walks.
Dewey has some separation anxiety and does not like to be left alone. He is a little bit better with another dog, but still prefers to have someone home more often than not. His foster carers are doing some separation training.
He is a quick learner and is learning some ‘touch’ training to help him focus and is getting there with ‘drop’ and ‘on your bed’. Our Dewey is the sweetest and most amusing companion who will give a lucky adopter lots of affection. He will steal your heart....and your shoes.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
