About Toby
Hi I’m Toby, a 10 month old beagle. I’m young, and beautiful, and have a lovely temperament. I love to chase a ball, and I adore toys. I will amuse myself with toys endlessly, and I’m not stressed if I’m alone (although of course I would love to play with you). I’m dog and cat friendly. I’m crate trained and house trained, and I sleep quietly overnight.
Don’t I sound perfect!
Well, I think that I am, but foster mum says that I have no off switch. I’m active all the time, I don’t understand calm or sedate, it’s all 100% go go go, or asleep lol. I don’t understand signs from other dogs that they don’t want to play or that I’m too much. I get in their face and all over them, and I’m relentless. I just want to play, but foster mum says I’m “that dog” – the one who causes a fight because I just won’t take no for an answer. I would love a dog to be my brother or sister, but it would need to be just the right dog, as I could cause even the best dog to snap.
I have found myself in rescue due to my bad behaviour, but no one trained me or taught me anything. My foster Mum and friends have worked very hard with me. My manners were non-existent, and I would even try to bite them to get my own way. Well, I was used to it, that’s how I got my way. I have been learning not to jump up on the humans, bark, steal, chew, and race around the house like a lunatic.
When you help me, I can sit, drop, stay on my mat, refrain from dashing in the house, and I can act calmly. But I forget so quickly if I’m allowed to. My wild side will take over and I let it. I don’t want to be obedient, but I know how, and I walk well on lead once I get over having a tantrum about my head halter.
So, I am not your average 10 month old puppy.
If you are prepared to help me to be the best that I can be, I know I can do it, but I will need consistent training. If you are not prepared to put in the effort to help me, please don’t apply for me. If you just want to love me better, please don’t apply for me, I’ll walk all over you.
My forever family will not have children under 12 years of age. A home with an existing dog will be considered, depending on the dog, as it will need to be exceptionally tolerant.
My new family will have the time, and the desire, to train me. My new family will have a secure backyard and not too worried if I make some mistakes in the garden whilst learning. We suggest at this stage, no doggie doors, perhaps later he can earn that. No apartments or townhouses, I have energy to burn. No unsecured rural properties, I would roam for sure. I would be unsuitable for elderly or unstable owners.
My new family will love to take me on new adventures, though I’ll need to be on lead. I have missed out on socialisation so will need help with that. I really would like my new family to be active and include me. Perhaps I could be a running or biking buddy, or a hiking companion.
If you think I’m the guy for you, and have read my profile and understand my requirements, then I would love to hear from you.
Medical notes
Toby has no major medical requirements.
