About Utah
Utah is a male black Labrador raised and trained in the Assistance Dogs Australia program. He is 18 months old, he is desexed and is looking for his forever home!
Utah is a lovable and goofy boy. He is a highly intelligent and motivated dog, so he requires mental and physical stimulation. Utah enjoys training and being challenged so proper mental stimulation will further help him learn and maintain the cues that he has learnt so far.
Although Utah has shown some great qualities during his time in the Assistance Dogs Australia training program, we have decided that he is not suitable to be placed as an Assistance Dog. Utah can display high arousal levels when out and about. He can be rough with his treat taking. In the past he did counter surf and pick up items in the home. As he settles in to his new home this behaviour should improve. When Utah does find his ideal home he will benefit from some initial training to help him settle into his new environment.
All Assistance Dogs are accustomed to spending most of their time with humans so Utah’s ideal person or family would spend a lot of time at home with him. He would love to go to someone who leads an active lifestyle.
Utah is social with other dogs. If there is another dog in the home he goes to, we would like Utah to meet them. Utah needs to be walked daily and would love to have a yard to play in.
Due to the current restrictions Utah is only able to be adopted by residents of Wollongong/Sutherland Shire
Utah is a healthy young dog. Vaccinations and parasite protection have been kept up to date. Utah did have some of his adult teeth removed when he was younger as he was born with an overbite. This does not require further vet care. If you think Utah could be the right dog for you or you have any further questions, please email Mel at mwatson@assistancedogs.org.au so that I can pass on an application form for you to complete.
