About Bala
Bala is an almost 5-year-old Bull Arab cross who was originally rescued from Sabai Island in the Torres Strait in 2021. He hadn’t had an easy start to life and was quite malnourished and full of heartworm when adopted but is now in great health.
Bala loves his training, and he quickly learnt sit, stay, drop, leave it, out and come. He’s housetrained and is used to coming inside with his people. He is also crate trained.
He is an incredibly loving and relaxed dog with the adults in his family and he loves any visitors who turn up. However, he is not coping with the arrival of his hooman sibling who is 29 months old now.
To give Bala a peaceful, happy life, he’s looking for a home with kids over 12 and lots of love and pats with frequent walks.
Bala’s owner has been working with a local dog trainer and so his new owner could continue with that training if they chose to.
Bala gets along very well with his owner’s German Shepherd and with other well-mannered big dogs, but he doesn’t put up with nonsense from dogs who get in his face or are overly boisterous. He’s looking for a home with or without a doggy friend.
He’s not suitable to live with cats, chickens, rabbits etc.
He pulls a little on lead, but when walked frequently is quite well behaved. He is very playful and will rough play with his owners but then stop on command. Same as when he goes to eat something on a walk, if they say "leave it" he does.
He is a bit nervous at the vets and his owner uses a soft muzzle to ensure he is well behaved. But with more desensitisation training he would probably be fine without.
His current owner is willing to drive up to 5 hours to drop Bala off at his new furever home if it means he can find the right family. Bala is currently in Canberra
Bala is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and wormed. Please contact Thursday Island Animal Support Group Inc - via facebook or by email tiasginfo@gmail.com
