About Zippie & Maxie ~ (On Trial 30/08/21)
Hi there! My name is Zippie and I would like to introduce myself and my older brother Maxie. Maxie is 9 years old and he is a Maltese, Zippie is 6 years old and he is a Pom X Maltese. We are a bonded pair as we have been together for as long as we can both remember and really prefer to stay together whenever possible. We are looking for our forever home but need a home that is willing to care for my brother’s medical needs and of course regular check-ups at the vet as required. We would love to get to know you so let me tell you a bit about the two of us!
I (Zippie) am 6 years young and have recently had my teeth cleaned and am in pretty good health. I have lots of energy and love to play with my foster siblings and brother Maxie. You can always tell me apart from other dogs because I have pointy ears that always stick up! If you throw a ball for me I will likely chase it, but only sometimes bring it back to you as I get easily distracted by all the nifty things to sniff around me. I love to roll in the grass and lay in the sun, but do not like to be outdoors all the time – I want to be with my people! I also like it when my coat is brushed, something that needs to happen every day. I love to get attention whether it is a long rub on my back or tummy. I am very affectionate and will follow you all over the place, so be prepared to have me in your face especially just as you are waking up for the day! On walks everything always seems new to me, so I am super curious and love to explore. If I see another dog, I like to say hello by barking. Don’t ask me why, it just seems like the right thing to do, unless my future home can teach me otherwise. When we are home, I’m usually not the one to instigate a barking session - that is my brother Maxie who does that. Okay enough about me! Let me tell you about my brother Maxie.
(Maxie) Firstly, he is the big boss of me. Being 9 years young he likes to tell me what’s happening outside if he can get the chance by sitting next to a window. Anything that moves, he’ll tell me it is there. As such, and like me, Maxie could probably use a bit of training to not be so reactive. Speaking of that, on walks while Maxie loves to run, sniff and play, he also likes to have a chatty bark at other people and or dogs. He does not pick fights with other dogs, but can be very lead reactive. Maxie will need someone who is patient and willing to provide for his medical needs for the rest of his life. But don’t you worry, just because he has a bad heart murmur, doesn’t mean you couldn’t learn a thing or two from him! One thing is how to take medication like a champ! He loves to take it in some food, or is known to swallow the pills easily if pushed into his mouth. He also just got his teeth cleaned, but will need someone who can help to keep them clean or at least get them cleaned on a regular basis, like me.
We are both cuddle bugs and would prefer to be able to cuddle indoors with you, in your bed and on all your lounges! At night, Maxie likes to burrow under the covers and usually does not come back out until morning when it’s time for the first toilet break of the day. When it comes to food, Maxie and I don’t like to rush a meal. We take our time and prefer to graze, eating a little bit throughout the day. I can do a few tricks for you like sitting, but Maxie always likes to strike a pose by standing up on his back legs and shaking his front legs at you. We both love car rides, but Maxie can get a bit anxious and tends to whine a little bit. He is just excited to be going somewhere.
