3-year-old Ray Ray is one of those extra special hounds, looking for one or two calm and patient humans to call his very own. Ray Ray comes as a two-for-one deal: when you adopt Ray Ray, you also get his best friend – a very giant cuddle-pillar.

Ray Ray has had a rough trot over the past couple of years. Prior to coming into care with Amazing Greys, Ray Ray was adopted out by a larger organisation while still suffering from an old injury that had not been treated properly. A plate in his leg had fused causing painful arthritis. Ray Ray has since had successful surgery and now has full mobility.

Unfortunately, Ray Ray carried trauma from these injuries and became anxious and reactive when his humans approached his bed or touched him and would also growl or bark at new visitors. Very sadly, his first home could not meet his needs for rehabilitation and asked Amazing Greys to take him into care.

In foster care, Ray Ray has been given time to build confidence and feel safe again in his interactions with humans, and to build trust with new visitors in the home. Ray Ray’s foster carer has taught him that ‘go-sit’ means to go to his safe space (bed/cuddle-pillar) where he can observe what’s going on in the home, with his personal security cuddle-pillar.

Ray Ray’s is a gentle and curious boy and his confidence has blossomed over the past few weeks. He is a typical couch-potato who likes to snooze and given the option will take ‘eating’ over ‘walking’. Ray Ray has also improved with his anxiety to loud sounds and traffic in his current neighbourhood. Instead of shivering against his foster carer, Ray Ray now walks confidently, facing the traffic and enjoying his walks.

Ray Ray is friendly with other greyhounds but does not like to socialise with other breeds. Ray Ray’s new home will continue to build his confidence around other breeds and take any introductions/socialisation slowly.

Ray Ray will need his forever home to have humans who can show him gentleness and patience as he adjusts to his new space, sounds and interactions. Ray Ray gains trust and bonds best when he can see what his humans are doing while he relaxes in his bed, and likes to be in the same room as his humans at night. Ray Ray’s new home will provide a similar set-up for him while he continues to build his positive experiences with new people.

Ray Ray’s ideal humans will be:

• Patient and loving
• Accepting of a dog who is not a cuddle-bug – Ray Ray will come to you when he wants affection and is very loving in his own way
• Quiet and relaxed – Ray Ray does not want his new home to be too busy or loud

Ray Ray’s ideal home looks something like this:
• House, townhouse, or unit with some outdoor space
• Spacious enough to provide Ray Ray with a safe zone (for his bed and cuddle-pillar) where he can see his humans but won’t be stepped over/walked near when he is trying to sleep and relax
• No other dog breeds
• No children – Ray Ray has had many positive interactions with children while in foster care but given his history of fearful behaviours, Ray Ray is seeking a home with only adults or chilled-out teenage/young adult children
