Hey everyone!
My name is Libby! I am a beautiful girl who was surrendered by my owner because they couldn't take care of me. I also came with a beautiful bundle of puppies. My babies have all found their forever homes now, and now that all my vet work is done, it's my turn to find my happily furever after! I am a wonderful girl who is great with children and other dogs. Let me tell you a little about myself!
Sadly when my family came into care, we had ringworm (a fungal infection), and I also had heartworm! Heartworm is a parasite that is spread by mosquitoes, lives in the host's heart and nearby blood vessels, and feeds on their blood. Heartworm disease is very serious and potentially life threatening... And the worst part is, it is preventable! Luckily Off The Chain do heartworm testing as part of their standard intake procedure, so even though I wasn't showing any symptoms yet, I was diagnosed and could begin the treatment that would save my life.
I pulled through treatment really well. Several days, spread over 3 months of treatment, spent laying still in a vet cage, being poked and prodded.. but I kept my pretty chin up and was perfectly behaved! This came as no surprise to my team, as I am an easy dog to care for in general! At night time I sleep in the laundry with the other dogs, and stay on my bed and quiet through the night. I love having my little safe place! My house training has been easy, not one accident so far, and I am working on my leash skills. I love my walks but get very excited, as I wasn't taken out often by my prior owner. Practice and consistency will help! My current carer works part time and I just hang out in the yard with the other dogs when they're gone. I live behind a 4ft fence which keeps me in just fine, so my ideal home has either 4ft fence or higher. I have lived with a small breed dog, puppies and human children. I get along great with all of them! I love rope toys, bouncy balls and squeaky toys, and am a tiny bit (very!) obsessed with my football!! I love to fetch! I know sit, stay, 'in/out, bed, and shake. I am a bright girl who loves to please and learn new things.
I would fit easily into most homes. I just need someone who will have me included as part of the family at night, who can take me out a few times a week to see the world, and has another dog friend for company while you're away. I am fully grown and a strange mix... my microchip said Great Dane mix but as you can see, there is not much Dane in me! I am kelpie height with a thick body. And 100 percent beautiful girl! So what do you think, could I be the one for you? Apply to meet me now!
Medical notes
I have recently recovered from heartworm. Luckily my team caught it early, the day of my rescue - so I hadn't yet started to show symptoms and made a wonderful recovery! I shouldn't have any future health concerns or complications due to my treatment, but as with ANY dog, it is important my owner commits to monthly heartworm preventatives for the duration of my life to continue my protection. My heartworm treatment was finalised in May 2021 and I have recovered well.
My owner will need to commit to a heartworm antigen test being completed in November 2021. Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld will pay for this to be done at your local clinic, and this test is required as part of your adoption agreement and not negotiable.
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following:
- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet at your home, or in a public place. If you have other pets they must be at the meet. You may be required to travel to the pet; we infrequently have admins available to drive extensive distance and it also says a lot if someone is able yet unwilling to come to the animal they have applied for. If for example you cannot drive, feel free to talk with us about possibility of travel to you.
At the meet if you and the pet get along you have the option of either taking the pet on the spot (in exchange for signed contract and the full adoption fee paid upfront) or placing the pet on hold for up to 2 days with a $100 non-refundable holding deposit. This deposit is then taken off the original adoption fee should you proceed with the adoption. Should you place a hold, we will not proceed other applicants until you have removed your hold or adopted the animal.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold pets without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters, so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit is non refundable to avoid time-wasters. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; if for example you are adopting a young animal it may not have had a full protocol yet due to age- so any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
