About Asher
Darling little ASHER is a "FoxField" - a Fox Terrier x Smithfield. He was born on 15 January 2021 and was given his name because it means "happy" and "blessed".
Unfortunately, Asher has had a rough start to life, thanks to his mother, but more on that later.
Let's start at the beginning. The "FoxField" is an unusual breed mix. For those not familiar with the rare Smithfield, they are a middle-sized herding dog, first introduced to Australia from England during colonial times. Known variously as the British Smithfield, Smithfield Collie or Smithfield Sheepdog, their coat grows long, coarse and shaggy. In a word, they are adorable.
The Smithfield is a calm, loyal, friendly and patient dog that makes an excellent companion for children and adults alike. Being a working breed, he requires plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Clever and fun-loving, the Smithfield enjoys running, playing fetch, learning tricks and catching Frisbee. They make good agility dogs.
The Smithfield enjoys the company of their family and will happily lounge about, watching TV and getting tummy rubs. They will alert their family to visitors with a friendly bark, but no aggression.
Somewhere along the line a Smithfield mated with a Foxy and ASHER is the delightful result. He has the intelligence, outgoing nature and big personality of the Foxy and the affectionate and fun-loving temperament of the Smithfield. He would make a superb companion dog.
Here comes the sad bit. When Asher was only three weeks old, his mother attacked him and his sister. His sister died as a result, but fortunately Asher has recovered from the injuries his mother inflicted to his mouth and snout. He's been left with a misaligned jaw and teeth and a crooked snout, but is otherwise a healthy and happy puppy that's just getting on with life. He has been cleared by our vet as suitable for adoption.
With his short legs, ASHER is about the size of a small corgi. He is good with other dogs, but untested with cats. He does not like poultry.
His adoption fee is $850 and he is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you'd like to meet him, the first step in our adoption process is to complete the online application form at https://southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/
