About Alfie
Alfie is a senior Kelpie gentleman of nine years old. He’s a gentle soul who is now looking for a very special retirement home where he will be the only dog, and where he can enjoy a quiet, secure life as a companion to a person or family who won’t expect him to be a social butterfly.
Due to his past experiences, Alfie can be fearful and though he has made great progress while in foster care, his new family will need to continue to support and manage him as he continues to gain confidence with new and scary situations. He has been attending formal training which has helped him to gain confidence, but he still has a way to go with this. Assistance with further training will be available to Alfie’s adopter as Alfie settles into his new home.
As he has past injuries, vigorous exercise such as chasing balls is not recommended. Having said that, he loves sticks and tennis balls and going for walks, and he loves going out in the car. He’s good on lead and is very well behaved out and about wearing his head halter and yellow jacket to ensure other dogs and people give him space.
Alfie is house trained and it’s important that he’ll be allowed to spend a lot of time indoors in his forever home. He loves curling up in front of the fire of an evening. He is currently an inside dog and takes himself off to his crate overnight.
Alfie is a sweet, sensitive older guy who is looking for a love that develops as a slow burn. He needs time and patience to build trust with his new humans as he has been hurt in past relationships. He needs authentic people who are genuine and will set him up for success by having his back. Alfie continues to do well controlling his fear-based reactivity when out on walks but definitely would not be suited to a multi-dog household or a household with children or anyone who is expecting him to be dog or people social now or in the future.
Alfie’s favourite things are:
• Snoozing by the heater
• Dozing outside in the sun
• Going for walks and having lots of sniffs
• Fetching sticks
• Learning (he’s a clever little man)
• Being around people he trusts
If you think you could provide Alfie with that special home, he is waiting to hear from you!
