About Sarge Cumberbatch
Please note: Sarge would love to be rehomed with a friendly medium to large female dog.
Gorgeous boy! Right from the outset Sarge’s foster carer reported he was one of the most lovely natured dogs she had ever met. And what breed is he – he is the original mutt – we think maybe pointer x lab with a touch of bull arab.
Sarge loves his people and loves his cuddles. He loves lying on the couch on his back with his head in your lap.
Most dogs get anxious when they go to the vet don’t they? The vet’s comments on Sarge’s vet check up were:
Very happy to be here
Lying on his back wanting tummy rubs.
Sarge needs high fences as he has jumped a medium fence previously in his distant past. Though there have been no recent attempts, better safe than sorry we say.
Sarge is house trained. He’ll let you know when he wants outside access and likes to toilet in the same area every time. He generally sleeps the night through, however he’ll let you know if he needs to go outside during the night. He sleeps in a crate.
Sarge is a high energy, clever boy, he knows the commands: sit, stay, come, drop, up, down, shake, wait and cross. Sometimes in his enthusiasm for a treat, he will do all of them in a row hoping to speed up the process!
He likes a couple of half hour walks a day, an antler to chew on, a treat holding kong is a fun activity he enjoys.
Sarge is excitable when meeting people at first, then he settles down. No small children please due to his size and over eagerness at times.
Sarge is a chewer, but an antler to chew is put to good use by Sarge and stopped him from chewing on his bed.
Sarge gets on best with female dogs and is fussier with male dogs being friends. He has lived with two cats happily in the past, liking to groom the cats. He can want to play boisterously but being told to leave them or the cats bopping him on the nose, he leaves them be. He is happy to share his food with the cats, waits till they finish their dinner before cleaning up the plates for them, and will eat the cat’s dry food if left unattended. Finders keepers and all that.
Sarge has some separation anxiety and would do best with someone home a lot or someone who works from home.
What does Sarge offer to his potential owner? He is one of those dogs that loves people, always happy and eager to please, bonds strongly with his people. A joyful, positive companion.
What does Sarge need from his potential owner? A loving owner who will be around a lot, someone who can take him for his walks, someone to consistently provide a routine for him and be a calm influence when he’s initially excited with meeting others. Sarge has been a very patient boy waiting for his forever owner. Is that you? Please fill out the application form if you think so!
Adults/teenage home only.
Medical notes
Weight 33kg
Sarge has food allergies and is on a special diet.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
