About Pepper
Pepper is such a gentle dog who will quietly wait for you to wake up in the morning and give you kisses. She respects boundaries and will not try to jump on furniture or the table during meals. If you let her in to your room, she will cutely crawl towards you on the carpet! She will sit by your feet while you work, cook, or snuggle with you during movies. Grooming her is extremely easy and she will gently wait until you finish and reward her with a treat.
Pepper is so loving, she will want pats from people walking past and anyone who gives her a look. Although she will greet you excitedly when you get home, Pepper is happy to stay at home if you provide with enrichment items. Her favourite are Kongs with frozen peanut butter, Lickimats with greek yogurt, or old cardboard boxes with treats inside. I have constantly trained her to be able to stay at home alone without developing separation anxiety.
Pepper's daily routine is a long walk in the morning and a second walk in the afternoon. One or two potty breaks in between or before bed depending on how she is feeling. High energy exercise 3-4 times a week should also be given as she is an energetic pup. She is fed her kibble during walks to work with her loose leash training and she is responding well but needs constant training as she gets overly excited during walks.
She will need a firm hand to hold her leash as she is dog reactive, she is 26 kgs and is very large compared to normal staffies. Our trainer does not think she is aggressive but overly excited and frustrated towards dogs. With proper introduction, she may be able to play with other dogs but she cannot be forced into dog introduction such as outdoor brunch, beach, etc. Although she is a gentle fluff at home, her personality outdoor is still an overly excited (large) puppy. We do not know how she is with kids but she seems too interested in smaller animals and children.
Pepper will cry and jump towards dog very strongly, she can overpower some adults with her pulling and jumping. She needs professional training to help her be 'normal' when dogs walk past. She will almost panic when dogs get too close and this can be a major problem for some people so please do not enquire if you will not be able to support her journey as a dog reactive dog. I do not want her to lose all the progress we have made so far by forcing her over her threshold.
Pepper's future home would preferably be with only adults with an active lifestyle who is willing to provide her with constant training on leash walking. Preferably a home with a fenced yard or none at all since she is a fence jumper and you will be surprised at how high she can jump to say hi to strangers. Pepper also loves long car rides and will not try to jump out the windows. She will be happy to take a nap during car trips. I would really want her to be included as a loving family member like she was in my home but without the stresses of a city life. I have devoted so much love and time for her to become a better dog and it would break my heart to see her treated with less love.
Pepper came to me with no prior training, now she is potty trained, loves to sleep in the crate, and quietly sits until you let her out the door. She responds really well to training and is eager to work for rewards as she is very motivated for food.
Pepper’s adoption is an assisted rehome through PetRescue’s Home2Home program. You will be speaking with Peppers owner when you enquire.
Adoption details
When enquiring about a pet listed with Home2Home, your enquiry goes directly to the pet’s owner - the person who knows them best!
It’s a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the pet, including its likes and dislikes, needs, and how it may fit into your lifestyle and family.
From here, the owner will be in touch with you to chat a bit more about their pet, and if they feel your home is the best fit, they will arrange a ‘meet and greet’ for you all to get to know each other.
Should this prove successful, arrangements will be made for the pet to move straight from its current home into yours upon payment of adoption fee. Change of Ownership paperwork will be completed, vetwork history will be provided and your new family member will be snuggled on your couch in no time!
