About Kara
Beautiful big girl Kara is a bouncy ray of over-grown puppy sunshine just looking to run into your life and be your best friend.
Kara is an affectionate, friendly, playful, enthusiastic young lady who is learning so much with the help of her wonderful foster family.
She's very friendly with other dogs and loves to play.
She would be fantastic with kids who are used to large dogs and can help with some training and boundary setting.
Kara loves people and company and will thrive in a big family where people are around a fair bit of the time.
Kara is just an all-round great dog. Her foster family have shared the following information to help her potential new family know what she's like:
""In regards to the chickens, it's a lovely game to chase them, which
inevitably happens when they are let out to forage. When Kara visits them
in their coop she's fine. It seems it is a bit of a game to chase them and
although we feel she has no intentions to go at them aggressively we do
have our concerns that she could get carried away and quite easily harm
one. For anyone looking at taking her on who already has chickens it would
be a matter of supervising her if the are free ranging until she has been
trained not to chase them. If in a coop then there is no problem.
As mentioned before, Kara LOVES a ball when in the park or at the beach, so
much so it has her full attention. Once the ball is away however, she isn't
obsessed with it. She is great with other dogs - there simply isn't any
aggression that we've seen, even when given a nip by a neurotic kelpie. She
almost seems curious when another dog exhibits aggressive behaviour.
We have a public park we take her to where lots of kids also enjoy playing
and she has been great here even towards kids who are excited themselves or
nervous of her. In general she loves people and likes to get rubs from
everyone.
Other things she loves includes the water (jumping into the waves at the
beach and trying to catch the water stream from the hose) and belly rubs.
On the whole Kara is an intelligent and food oriented dog, which means
treat-based training has worked well, she sits before crossing the road
these days and stays (with 2 long lines of drool dropping to the floor!)
before eating her meal. We would have confidence that with a bit of puppy
school her owners would be able to really solidify the good behaviour while
discouraging her from working herself into an excited state of mind where
she wants to use her mouth, not aggressively, but she thinks it's a great
game.
She is fairly demanding of your attention which is why we think that a
family with more people to play with her might be a good fit. We have had
no problems with leaving her home alone on occasions when we are both at
work however upon your return you will be greeted by a VERY excited puppy
who tends to be a bit jumpy. We haven't managed to find a way to fully
discourage this excited jumping behaviour, so that will require ongoing
training.
We hope this info helps provide an updated profile for Kara and assists
potential new owners to get an insight into the type of girl Kara is.""
