About Dale ~ 1yr Old Smithfield x (On Trial 25/7/21)
This is Dale, he is one cool dude who is looking for his new home. Dale is a 1yo male Smithfield Cattle Dog cross. His boofy head doesn’t quite match his leggy, lean body, which doesn’t match his short tail, but you can’t help but smile at him and grab his head for a pat.
Dale is a friendly boy who can’t help but do a little wiggle dance when he sees someone. He loves people and dogs (of all sizes) and because he just wants to be friends with everyone, he doesn’t quite understand personal space and thinks it’s ok to sit on top of you and give you kisses. He is slowly learning boundaries. When it comes to playing with other dogs, Dale loves a good chase and rumble and will play for as long as he (and the other dog) can. He is, however, quite respectful of dogs who aren’t into playing and if told, he doesn’t bother them.
During Dale's time in care, he has exposed him to living with multiple dogs of various breeds, sizes and ages and he has integrated smoothly without any hiccups. He has an inquisitive nature, which means that even when he appears to be resting, he is ready to get up and see what is happening and follow you around, so no chance of tiptoeing away. His is privy to chewing things at times and sneaking some food off the bench, so correcting him and eliminating temptations will help and it won’t take long for Dale to learn as he is a clever boy and would rather receive gold stars than a red cross. Soft toys are a favourite of his to pull apart as well.
Working on his name recall will help with training and keeping his focus. He can sit on command and has developed better leash manners, usually correcting himself when he pulls too much (except when he sees other dogs). When it comes to food, he is a bit of a guts, so he will need to learn patience, especially if he has a doggy sibling. He isn’t food aggressive, just a thief.
Dale is a cruisy, clever dog with a great nature, who loves to please his peeps, but just needs some refining. He will bring the ball back after chasing it and he hasn’t shown to be an escape artist. He just wants the good life with his family and keep filling up his chart with gold stars. He’s not an annoying barker, only having let out a few deep barks when someone walked past, or the neighbours had visitors turn up.
Dale has been around children and loves them, but because of his size, bouncy feet, excitable nature and complete disrespect for one’s personal space, he is probably best suited to kids over the age of 8. He might be a bit “nippy” towards younger kids with their fast movements and generally higher pitched voices. Dale loves a walk and could potentially be a good running partner once his leash skills are better. He is also capable of flopping on the floor or curling up on his bed and when he is 100% relaxed, he will completely let go and let out these loud groaning noises to let you know that he is content.
He really is an amazing, all round boy who will be great in a family environment or as someone’s best mate, provided they are amazing to him. Dale wouldn’t mind having a fur-friend to hang and snuggle with as well. If you would like to apply to adopt Dale please submit our application form at https://form.jotform.co/82217742684866
