About Dexter Buckingham

Please note: Dexter will be rehomed with an adult family or a family with older children.
Dexter has a charming, sophisticated nature and can also be a delightful goofball. This amazing boy is calm, affectionate and friendly and gets on well with everyone he meets. If you love going for drives and day trips, Dexter will be a great companion. He loves to ride in the car with you.
Dexter enjoys his walks for 20 or 30 minutes at his own slow pace but also enjoys a good run around in the garden. He loves meeting dogs on his walks, he does pull a little but that is because he just wants to say hello. Dexter has been tested with a cat and they got along well.
Dexter is house trained and is good with all of his commands. He is easy going overall and can also be incredibly lazy - who can blame him! He even greets you at the door with a smile when you return home. It’s hard to beat a welcoming like that!
We brought Dexter to Melbourne believing he would need a double hip operation however the orthopedic specialist assures us this isn’t the case. He will most likely manage his whole life with just pain medication when he has overexerted himself.
Dexter has such a lot to offer the right person who can understand that he has been born with an issue that limits his activities a little – but this most certainly does not his include his limitless charm! Dexter will be that one in a million dog for one very lucky adopter. Will that be you?
Please note: our dogs are not available for interstate adoption. We also do not adopt to people under the age of 25 years.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped, wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals, surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Weighs 49kgs
Dexter has been born with some malformation of his bones that sometimes causes him pain. He can be a little stiff standing up and sitting down. But on our visit to the orthopedic specialist we were told that he will most likely be fine for the rest of his life with just the occasional pain relief meds required.
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
