On Hold
About Mafia. King of the cool dudes.
Mafia is the sweetest, funniest character we've had in our shelter this year, our volunteers all adore him and we'll be sad to see him go but he needs to be sharing his awesomeness with others it's so good! :D
Mafs is a cheeky and loving boy with the cutest meow. He needs to be the man of the house in that he's a little stressed by other cats, but is not demanding of your time, he enjoys being with you but is quite happy chilling in his own company when his people aren't around.
He loves to play with toys, to be brushed, patted and enjoys a short cuddle (which we know will increase once he's in his new home with the right owner). He has the fluffiest bloomers on the back of his legs and wiggles his butt from side to side when he walks, which is sure to keep you laughing. He likes to chat and his coat is super soft and boofy.
Mafs would love to be an apartment cat with one awesome human or a couple who will adore his uniqueness and give him top quality care. Mafia is FIV positive which means his immune system is weakened and minor issues like skin scabs and gunky eyes can pop up, or difficulty overcoming say, a tooth infection. We’ve found FIV cats respond really well to good quality nutrition (dry food should be their staple diet and for affordability we suggest ordering large bags of your chosen brand online), indoor living, and low stress. Things that stress cats are: a loud or busy home when they need it quiet, neighbourhood cats at the window or door, no cosy hiding places to retreat to in the home for them to rest and rejuvenate, not enough time with their people, strangers often visiting, pain and illness. In the right home we anticipate Mafia won't encounter issues with his health. * Please see 'Medical Notes' below for more about FIV.
This guy is one special cat, if you have the perfect home for him and he's the type of cat you're looking for, he'll reward you a thousand times over for welcoming him into your heart and home <3
Medical notes
FIV is an unnecessary (and heartbreaking) barrier to amazing cats finding forever homes.
What is FIV:
The easiest way to understand Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is to think of HIV in humans - it causes a weakened immune system. It means their immune system isn't as strong as a normal cat and needs a bit of help to fight general illnesses, and we give them this help through good nutrition, low stress and inside living.
How cats contract FIV:
FIV is usually contracted through deep bite wounds when cats fight on the street. There is a small number of females infected through mating and a small number of kittens who contract it from mum, but generally it's a male cat condition. Mafia should be kept indoors permanently to keep him healthy and avoid him getting into fights and passing on the condition, or being bitten and having to fight infection.
Please contact us if you have any questions about FIV is or would like to discuss our gorgeous boy fitting into your home safely :)

*** PLEASE NOTE OUR INDOOR CAT POLICY
Most of our cats were either born, or lived for some time, on the street and have only ever known the outside world to be a source of fear and survival of the fittest. So although they've been rehabilitated and are in most ways domesticated by adoption, they will 100% return to fearful behaviour if let outside. Hence we have an indoor only policy (or indoor with access to an enclosure, netted area or leash walking) unless clearly stated in an individual cat's profile. Please consider this before making an enquiry. Thankyou <3

About Sunny Days:
Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of ‘true stray’ cats - cats who've never had experience with humans or a human home.
The overall objective of our organisation is to:
💕 successfully physically and psychologically rehabilitate terrified cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
💕 remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they will never breed again or be back on the street again,
💕 provide an example of the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
💕 educate the community on how many stray cats are hiding in the dark corners of community trying to survive and that desexing is the only way to begin to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
💕 provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn animal husbandry and handling skills to a high level which may help them in their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
💕 and provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool their skills for the betterment of a demographic of animal that is mostly ignored and misunderstood despite us humans being their source and the reason they even exist.
Please support us in our important work by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page. Thankyou! 💕
