About Elsie
Elsie is an independent soul, loves her humans and always keen for a cuddle but happy to amuse herself much of the time.
Her foster carer describes her as happy, gentle, loving, affectionate, keen to learn, adaptable, loyal and curious. She is a glorious brindle with soft, floppy ears and big brown eyes. Elsie loves her toys and will toss them about. In between spurts of activity she will snooze the day away. Elsie usually enjoys her two twenty minute walks and is happy to pop out with you for a third or maybe a car ride to the shops. She leaps on all fours at any suggestion of a car ride.
If Elsie is too snoozy for a walk she will give you a side-eye to just suggest we skip this one.
Elsie is a smart cookie, can do stairs, is great walking on lead and toilet trained. She can still be a bit frightened of loud unfamilliar noises like trucks or skateboards but improving every day. Elsie won’t appreciate a home with noisy children.
Elsie really loves play dates with other doggy companions especially her local greyhound mates, so a regular social meet with other greys would be welcome.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
