Hi friends, my name is Gunner!
I am a friendly, happy boy who was rescued when my owner abandoned me at a vet clinic. Thankfully, the vet rang Off The Chain who came to save me! I have been in foster care since that day, and am a wonderful doggo. I need a loving, committed family to help me grow in confidence and be the best me I can be!
Since coming into care, I have proven to be a bundle of fun. I am smart, playful and a very friendly dog. I currently sleep in the sunroom with the other dogs at night and love my snuggle bed. I go all night without a peep and wait to be let out to toilet. I don't love baths (who does) but I let them do it to me, and I was wonderfully behaved at the vets! I enjoy car rides and sit quietly.
I know how to come, sit, and wait, even if I sometimes need reminding of my manners. I get so excited you see, especially with food in sight! I am very food motivated and not a fussy eater. I currently live with adult humans, as well a medium size adult dog, and a cat. I get along great with everyone here, but can get very clingy with the cat which results in me getting in trouble with her... I am learning to give her space. I'd love to live with another loving, high energy dog so we can keep each other company. I can be a little too energetic for the dog friend I currently live with, so a high energy friend is a must so we can keep up with each other!
I love human children and get along well with all the dogs I've met so far. I love to play tug a war with my dog friends! I need a 6ft and secure fence to keep me safe, as I can jump 1m without even trying and if I get a fright, I will sometimes try to escape from the yard. Unfortunately it seems I've been beaten in past; while many dogs are nervous around things like brooms and mops, my reaction to some objects is indicative of abuse. Even turning toward me with a whisk in your hand will see me bolt into the next room. I need someone who will keep these things in mind and work with me to build trust and confidence. It takes me a week or two to trust my new humans, but I am a very loving boy who thrives with positive reinforcement and good structure. I don't enjoy being separated from my humans, but my carers are practising with me and I am improving with time.
I look forward to 5x weekly outings, so I can see the world, run sniff and roll! I haven't been let off-leash while in foster care, so I am used to leashed walks, sniff trips and some jogging. I am the perfect dog for someone committed to my enrichment and training needs, and will reward you with all the fun, love and snuggles in the world! If you'd like to adopt me, please apply - a cutie like me won't be around long!
Medical notes
I have a knee with a luxating patella (wobbly kneecap). It's my back left leg; the vet said it isn't causing me any pain or damage, and that I don't require any treatment at this time or in near future. The best way to keep it this way is keep me a healthy weight and limit jumping to or from high surfaces.
As with any dog, my owners should do yearly health checks to make sure I am healthy and happy, and be willing to treat any illness or injury should it arise.
Adoption details

- Real estate approval
- Fence requirements
- Outside shelter areas
- Other resident pets fully vaccinated and preferably desexed
- The rescue pet's dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed, age
- Enrichment, exercise and training needs of pet you are applying for
- If you have not read our adoption process below in full, please do not apply until you have.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applicants may meet the animal. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the pet. We will not contact you if you do not complete the form in full AND provided the required photos of yard/fencing within 48hrs. Photos may be sent to our facebook page, or email offthechaink9rescue@outlook.com

If you apply to adopt but require us to hold the pet more than 3 days before meeting, we will ask you for a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters. If you follow through with adoption after your meet, the $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
Ready to roll? Then fill out the application form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox. (www.facebook.com/offthechaink9)
