About Thor
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Thor
Thor is a Blue and White registered pure bred American Staffordshire Terrier who has been DNA profiled.
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
General breed traits: American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
ASSETS: He’s an absolute darling! A little shy, eager to please, sensitive but very affectionate. Thor has had some huge changes in his life and can be a little unsure in a new environment, but with stability, routine and love he will flourish in his new home.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Cuddles! He loves to be near his person receiving cuddles and belly scratches. He is learning how to play and likes chew toys without squeakers and playing tug of war.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He is a very loyal boy with a ton of love to give. He has a very happy face that will greet you when you arrive home, and at food time he will do a little dance in excitement.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets very excited when he sees an unknown dog and wants to play. His social skills need work as other dogs may find him pushy and rude so careful slow introductions are a must for Thor to ensure he feels comfortable with the situation. He is currently being fostered with a female dog that he gets on well with. He doesn’t show any interest in cats or other small animals but we would prefer that there are none in his new home.
GENERAL INFO: He is a little unsure around new people, places etc. He is still learning how to walk nicely on the lead and pulls at present because everything is new to him. He is mostly housetrained but has the odd accident when left alone. He barks when he hears strange noises and is scared of water hoses and any sudden movements. His command training is coming along nicely but will need further work. He can be a little scared when he’s uncertain of what’s going to happen, but routine and gentle encouragement from his new owner will help with this.
ESSENTIALS for Thor:
• he loves his person so someone who is there for most of the day or can take him with them when they go out
• professional training to improve his socialisation skills around other dogs and where he can learn new things in a safe and controlled environment
• good daily exercise to help him release his Staffy energy
• a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff, where he can also relax and chill
• to be allowed inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside at night and be included as part of the family.
Thor could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10 years of age (he does jump up but is working on this) and possibly a youngish female doggy friend, dependent on meet. He would also be happy as an only pet if he was the centre of your world and could spend most of his time with you.
We would prefer Thor to be adopted to a home that has experience of American Staffordshire Terriers and loves the breed. Thor is a sensitive boy who needs a gentle hand, understanding.and clear boundaries.
If Thor sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
