Smudge

Blessed with energy to spare, Smudge is a pocket rocket little pupper. Never is there a dull moment when this girl is by your side and you could stay entertained for hours watching her run about chasing butterflies (or rather anything that moves). Smudge is an affectionate girl who has a passion for giving and receiving cuddles. She is a spotlight girl who loves attention, very much an ‘all eyes on me’ kind of dog. She may be a fan of cuddles but do not expect her to stay around for very long when there is so much more of the world she can see (and things she can chase). “Smudge the Explorer’ may not have a ring to it, but sign this girl up for an adventure or two! She loves discovering new things and will scrutinize every inch of her environment looking for something new (to chase). Tug-of-war? Please...Smudge has you beat! She loves the game and will gladly take on any newcomers daring to take a shot at her title. She enjoys playing with canine companions and gets along well with children (their energy levels tend to match hers!). With all the energy she has to burn, Smudge is undoubtedly a massive food fanatic.

You want her to learn a new command? Food is your best friend and her motivation. Smudge is a smart pup who loves learning new skills and practising her commands. Her deeply rooted love for learning has helped her amass a large arsonal of training commands that she is learning/has learnt (although not perfected yet). She knows “sit”, “lie down”, “come” and “out”, executing the commands most of the time. She has been learning “wait”, “no’ and “fetch”, quickly picking up these commands. Her best commands are “stay” and “bed” which she has almost perfected. Smudge frequently trains with her foster carers and will need to continue this regime with her new family. She responds well to positive reinforcement training (with her love for food as a huge motivator) and she is eager to please her humans. Smudge is still a pup and may sometimes struggle when learning a new command but through patience and support she will get the hang of things. She may benefit from being taught the command in a different way to help her better understand what she is being asked to do. Smudge is a people pleaser so she may sometimes get dejected if she doesn't understand the commands she is learning. She has learnt how to give a good, solid, handshake for all important business deals and is house trained.

Smudge will need to be with humans who will continue her training in addition to helping her practise the commands she has already learnt while being understanding and providing positive reinforcement for when she struggles to understand what she is being taught. Smudge is also an active girl who will need humans who are dedicated to ensuring that she gets lots of exercise and cuddles, and who will provide her with sufficient mental stimulation to keep her busy. She will need to go on daily or even sometimes twice daily walks as she is a super active girl with bucket loads of energy. Please note that she will not be ready to go to her forever home until she has received her 16 weeks vaccination and her desexing will be completed at 6 months as part of the adoption agreement.
