About Andy
Andy doesn’t have a huge amount of energy, a couple of 30 minute walks each day and he’s done.
He is otherwise busy snoozing for the rest of the day. Andy is a quick learner and has mastered a few basic instructions. He is currently doing “watch me” training to help him cope with seeing all the strange dogs on his walks. A new adopter will able to work with Gumtree Greys whist Andy gets more comfortable with all the other dogs on his walks.
A shiny black boy with a curious white spot on his nose, Andy loves his humans and wants to please. He is very friendly and smoochy. He also adores his foster sister Macy, another greyhound, who happens to be his actual sister. We are very open to adopting these two siblings as a matched pair. This may suit a home with workers who are away from the home for longer days.
No cat or small dog applications please.
No children under six.
No full time workers unless working from home or there is another dog
We only consider applications who compete our online application.
When this is done we can make contact to discuss adopting a greyhound and potential suitable greys currently in foster care.
Medical notes
Like many racing greyhoundsAndy has had some racing injuries. He has some torn back muscles.
Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
