About Hogan
HOGAN
Hi humans I’m Hogan or call me Hoges
I know I kinda look a bit big and scary because I’m a 50 kg Mastiff cross but I’m only a young pup of 10 months who just loves a cuddle and pat.
Coming from the country has been quite a change, so much to see and do here in Melbourne and lots of friends to meet
Big Hogan.
What a delight he has been to foster, yes he’s big and a bit boisterous but what 10 month old toddler isn’t. He’s full of energy and excitement, one big happy goofball. But please remember he is a pup and still has some puppy traits
Temperament
Very happy boy who just wants to make friends with humans and other dogs. He has shown no aggression even when snapped at but the grumpy resident dog. He has met a few dogs at the park and just keen to wag tails, sniff butts and play. Being a big boy he can be intimidating to some dogs so slow introductions are best to ensure other dogs are comfortable in his presence. He displays all the signs of wanting to play and would be best suited with bigger dogs as he is a strong boy
He has a very gentle nature, not food aggressive, he is able to be patted whilst eating, will sit to take food from your hand gently. He’s even willing to give you a shake first to say thanks. He is still an excitable puppy so can jump up so you do need to be aware of this when applying but he is learning to sit for a pat so patience and consistency is the key to bring out the best in this boy. He will make a loving loyal dog and become your best mate
Alone time
Quiet as a mouse. This boy very rarely barks day or night. We think he has spent a lot of his time outside alone as he is quite happy to hang outside and sleep the day away so he would be suitable for someone that works. Even when someone is home he doesn’t cry or scratch to come inside, very rarely he will give a little whimper
Inside time
This boy being a pup gets excited when allowed inside and can be a bit jumpy so still learning his inside manners. He is spending sometime inside and does eventually settle. He is practicing learning to sit, drop on his mat as he really would like to be included inside at times with his family if possible. He will still need work in this department just like any other pup
If you are planning on having him as an inside boy he will need a bit of work as he gets a bit excited to be inside lol

Walks
Generally Hoges likes to meander along reading the daily news from cover to cover so be prepared for lots of stops and sniffs along the way. He likes to occasionally add to the local news too. He doesn’t pull much on the lead during these walks
If he sees another dog he can pull towards it, making him strong on the lead but if you stop and let dog walk by (other side of road) he will generally continue on his merry way. When walking past people he wants to say Hi and can jump up so it’s best to have him in a short lead with a firm leave/ no when passing other walkers. He is being walked twice a day, not off lead (as he has no recall yet) unless at an enclosed park but I wouldn’t overwhelm him with busy dog parks but just a few friends at a time. Due to him being strong on the lead at times he does need the appropriate harness
Sleep
Mmmm one of his favourite pastimes especially if he can find a bit of sun. He sleeps well outside but has been in the laundry on cold nights on a big cosy bed with a fluffy blanket.
Car rides
Hope you have a big car as he’s a space invader. He is reasonably happy to jump in the car and be secured. He’s learning car trips
