About Duke
Duke is all about humans. He will try to get cuddles from passers-by and anyone else in sight on his walks. He makes everyone he meets feel very special. This handsome black boy with the softest fur is called the Love-bug by his foster Mum. One of her favourite moments in their day is going off to bed and saying goodnight to him. On his bed he will lean into her cuddle as they wish each other a goodnight. Spending time with you on the couch watching a movie is also a pleasure as Duke loves to snuggle in with you.
Dukes foster mum is very proud of her smart boy. In a few short weeks he has learnt so much. He has gotten much more confident on his walks and building up a bit on endurance as his foster sister is used to two long walks each day. Duke is very keen to please - so easy to train. He knows several commands including “on your bed” and now has recall. Call out “come Dukeee-boy and he will bound over for a cuddle. He walks beautifully on leash and is unfazed by most encounters on his walks but loud, unexpected noises may startle him.
Duke loves his tucker and is happy to try anything, including your toast with a bit of peanut butter.
Duke loves his car rides and jumps in and settles well, He’d hove to ride in the passenger seat as your co-pilot if he could.
Our boy is very well behaved and respectful with his foster sister, another greyhound. They don’t interact a great deal but he does rely on her for company and support when his foster mum is out of the house. We think he will need a similar situation in his adoptive home. He does have some separation anxiety so will need a suitable doggy mate or people home most of the time.
Duke is the an absolute delight.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
