About Mya ~ 5mo Mixed Breed (On Trial 9/9/21)
Mya is a 6-month-old mixed breed who is searching for her furever home. She has been in care for a few months now and has blossomed from a timid, uncertain puppy with minimal human interaction into an excitable, happy girl.
Almost, daily, Mya is giving us insight into who she is as she comes out of her shell, which makes writing her story a little challenging because it’s constantly changing. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that Mya is still a puppy and everything said about her needing training is because she is a puppy who needs to learn and with the right person/family she will flourish.
Mya’s new people/person need to put in the effort to train her. She needs improvement in the basic manners that will help calm her down and allow her to become an integrated family member. When excited she is a bit jumpy and is very impatient when it comes to food. Sitting for her food and waiting ‘til she is told is one task that Mya is working on and will be important if she has another doggy friend to live with. She has primarily been an outside dog and is currently an only dog, but she has had sleepovers at another carer’s place and has been allowed inside where she hasn’t been a problem.
House training is progressing, and Mya will go to the back door as a cue, but it can be brief and therefore, a lost opportunity, but she has had hardly any accidents inside. Again, further training around indoor manners and the rules of the house will only be of benefit and it won’t take long, just consistency.
Mya loves other dogs and is very playful with high energy and she can be a bit “in-your-face” with all her excitement. Having another playful, but well-rounded doggy friend who can also show Mya what “I’ve had enough for now” means is something Mya would love and benefit from. Mya doesn’t necessarily need to live with another dog, but she does thoroughly enjoy their company, so if she could have regular interactions with other dogs, she would be forever thankful.
Mya enjoys a walk and is pretty good on a lead but can tend to pull (in excitement) when she sees other dogs. She will happily play with her toys which is quite entertaining to watch and if Mya were to be an only dog, having an array of toys will help keep her occupied. Energy and training aside; Mya does know how to chill and be calm. She’ll happily curl up on her bed
outside or spread herself on the loungeroom floor. When she has been given timeout, she hasn’t complained or made a fuss. She just curls up and waits til she’s allowed back in. Mya hasn’t shown to be destructive in the yard or house and doesn’t appear to be an escape artist, but she is quite bouncy on her feet, so a secure yard with reasonable height fencing will prevent temptation. She has been known to collect items laying around and has chewed shoes, but again, proper exercise, training and mental activity will help reduce the urge and boredom.
Mya is a really sweet, loving girl who has gone from not wanting a bar of humans to happily receiving pats and cuddles and wanting to be by your side and follow you around. She’s been around kids over the age of 10 and is fine. She’ll happily follow them around and willingly receive pats and cuddles. As mentioned, she is quite bouncy and jumpy, so caution around younger kids will be needed.
If you think you can give Mya the home to make her shine and sparkle, fill out the adoption questionnaire here https://tinyurl.com/drnadopt.
Mya is in the Hunter Valley, NSW. Inquiries can be sent to Olivia at horvat13@gmail.com. Official applications that have been filled out will be considered first.
Mya has been vaccinated and will be desexed before heading to her new home. Her adoption fee is $600 and covers her vaccination and desexing. She is also microchipped.
