About Benji
This little pup came to RSPCA as part of a litter, having been surrendered to our Animal Welfare Inspectors. They were only a few weeks old, and they needed to be taken off their mum early as she was in poor condition and couldn't feed them.
They were all sent out with some of our wonderful foster carers, 2 at a time, and are now back, big and beautiful, and ready to start their lives.
We understand their father was a German Shepherd x, and mum a Boxer/Staffy mix. So it's hard to predict just how big they will be. However, judging by their size now, at 12 weeks, they are going to be fairly large dogs, and will definitely be very active.
Puppies are fun, but they can also be destructive and frustrating, and definitely have muddy paws which they will happily put all over you, no matter what you are wearing.
The requirements for a puppy family are:
someone home most of the time (they are too young to be left for a whole day while the family are at work)
They need to be able to be inside with their family. Dogs (ie puppies) left alone in a back yard become lonely, bored and anxious, and that's when the destructive behaviours begin and turn into lifetime habits
A family who can give them the time they will need while being trained (which is a continuous process for all of their lives), and plenty of time for exercise as they get bigger
If you are living in rental accommodation, you will need written approval from your landlord that you can have a dog at the property, and that you can have it inside
Someone who is prepared to take on the lifetime commitment of a dog, which could easily be 15 years. And all that goes with it - the training, the cleaning up, the inevitable Vet bills, the buying of good food, the patience they will need as puppies, and plenty of love to spare. Puppyhood and adolescence can be a trying time, and can go for 18 months - 2 years. However, the rewards are great, and you will be repaid a thousand-fold with puppy licks and adoring eyes.
