About Zig
Zig is a sweet boy who loves his humans dearly and is a sucker for some time on the couch, chilling beside them. He is an independent doggo who will let his humans know when he wants their attention. Zig is a sweetheart who adores spending as much time with his humans as possible. His favourite pastimes include but are not limited to: getting scratches, curling up for a snooze beside his humans and gazing into his humans’ eyes with love. Zig loves a good pamper session with the works! He loves to get his nails trimmed, taking a nice relaxing bath and having his coat brushed out. If you need a spa day buddy, he is your guy! Zig sometimes asks to be picked up as he has grown quite fond of being picked up. He discovered his love for being picked up after seeing his foster sibling enjoy it so much and he just had to try it.
Zig knows a few commands but is eager to expand his repertoire and learn some new ones. He has mastered his ‘no’ and ‘off’ commands, when he is being told to stop a certain behaviour or to get him to move away. Zig is a food orientated learner and finds that having a tasty treat really helps to motivate him to complete his commands. He is on strict vet instructions to lose some weight and needs to follow a slimming diet with plenty of exercise so he needs to find some other motivators to help him along. Zig responds well to positive reinforcement (he enjoys getting treats for completing a command), making it important to use this to continue his training but other positive reinforcement (verbal praise or pats) would benefit him more due to his weight issues. Zig is still practising his ‘sit’ commands and needs to expand his training commands in his new home. His humans must understand that he may take a little longer to learn a new command and must be willing to work with him, encouraging him to keep going when he gets dejected.
Zig is not fully toilet trained (he mostly is) and may have accidents inside the house, therefore, he does need to continue to work on this with his new family. They will need to understand that it will take time, but he will learn and with time his accidents will decrease more and more. Zig seems ok with cats but care will need to be taken when he first meets any feline friends or companions. He only barks when he is protecting his home as he loves his family very dearly and can become stirred up by other dogs, making him very defensive so a meet with any possible siblings will be required. As Zig has to lose some weight, his family will need to work with him to exercise everyday and check in with a vet to see his progress. It is important that his humans understand that he needs to lose weight in order to live the best life he possibly can. Zig is a beautiful dog who is just looking for a family to give him lots of affection and pampering.
Medical notes
Zig has tested positive for heart worm. He is however currently receiving treatment and CQASI will continue to cover the cost of his treatment until his results come back negative. He received the injection to kill the worms on the 18/06/2021 and in 6 months he will have to be retested to check if they are still there or not.
Adoption details
MEET & GREET
We encourage all adopters to meet their new addition before committing to adoption. This gives you a chance to see if the animal might be a good fit, and if a dog, to also introduce them to your other animals. Just like we don't expect all humans to get along, we expect the same for animals.
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
At CQASI our animals future is paramount and we want to see them put into their forever homes. Every detail on our agreement is used to ensure your home is suitable for a new addition, that you agree to the terms and conditions and we also use some of the info for owner transfer after the adoption trial period (mentioned further down)
HOME/YARD CHECK
All our cats are indoor/outdoor enclosure only so all house checks are done when your feline friend is being dropped off to join your household. If the barking variety is what you are looking at adding to your home then one of our volunteers will contact you to arrange a day/time for a yard check. This is to check your fencing is suitable, see where your new canine will be sleeping and just get a general feel for the home they will be going to. All our adoptions tend to be local, but we have connections all over QLD so are more than happy to consider all serious adoption enquiries. A house/yard check will be done if we can get a local member (if adoption enquiry is not Rockhampton based) to assist.
ADOPTION FEE
Adoption fee is to be paid prior to collecting your new family member. The adoption fee is used to cover the vet work your new addition received. This includes - but is not limited to Desexing, vaccination/s, microchipping, parasite treatment/prevention (heart worm testing for dogs only).
TWO WEEK TRIAL
All our animals have a two week trial period. This gives your new addition time to settle into your family life and to give you a chance to ensure they are exactly what you want. If they are not settling in then we will arrange to take them back into care and you will be refunded the adoption fee. If after the two weeks they are exactly what you wanted then we will send you all their paperwork including sterilisation certificate, vaccination certificate and microchip transfer form.
Our aim is a beautiful goodbye into their new home. We treat any potential adoption with the upmost care as the animals safety and welfare is our number one concern.
