About Sir Percival
Percy
Available For Adoption
Percy has endured the tough life of the streets but is now ready to find a family to love
Percy is estimated to be 10 years young, litter trained, microchipped, vaccinated, desexed, flea and worm treated and had his teeth cleaned and polished.
A few words from Percy's foster mum, Lyn.
Sir Percival aka Percy
Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Age: Estimated at 10 years
Colour: Dark chocolate nearly black (think Lindt 80% Dark Chocolate) Maybe a mix of Burmese with his build, temperament and colour.
Health Status: FIV positive, I.B.S.
Temperament: Laid back and very friendly. Cat friendly, does not like dogs. Good with older children.
Percy first came to our attention approximately 18 months to 2 years ago. We initially thought he was a new cat in the neighbourhood as he was fat and sleek and we rarely saw him. Over time it became evident that he was a "stray" but it took many months before we noticed him coming every night for food and by this time he was doing it tough on the streets. One night late last year he came for food and his face was covered in blood and it was clear he was in a lot of pain from his injuries. That night I sat and cried seeing this poor cat in such a terrible state. I knew I had to do something, but what? Getting these cats off the street is the easy part .... finding a rescue group who can help is the real task.
Fast forward to February this year and I was starting to get close to Percy and able to get a couple of photos of him, I advertised on a local lost and found group and I thought I had found his owners but this was not to be.
After many calls to numerous rescues, Kylie and Cat Rescue Port Stephens came to our aid with a solution. This felt like a rainbow at the end of a fierce long storm.
We took Percy back from the failed "owners" and he has been here since 1st March 2021.
Percy has had all his vet work done including blood tests for kidney, liver and thyroid function which are all normal.
The vet thinks Percy has IBS which we are managing with diet and probiotics. This can be discussed more on meet and greets.
The vet commented on the fact that Percy is in good health considering his time on the streets.
Percy's age is estimated at around 10 years. He is FIV+ but this is not a death sentence and is not AIDS. As with a majority of FIV+ cats it may never "tip over" to full AIDS.
These cats can live long and happy lives with a few simple things that will keep an FIV+ cat healthy and this can be discussed in detail with any prospective adopters.
Percy is very social and is not interested in fighting with our cats, he just wants to play. He would ideally be best suited to be an only cat or with another cat who is FIV+
Because of his FIV positive status, Percy needs to be an inside only cat or have access to a secure outside enclosure. He uses the cat enclosure we have but is not overly keen on being outside as he is wary of loud noises and the sound of cars. He prefers being inside after his years on the street and adapted very quickly to a secure and safe indoor life.
Percy loves his food, his soft bed and warm blankets and to cuddle up at night under the blankets with his human and he has his favourite toys. He has the loudest purr I have heard and he plays as though he is a kitten and does the best butt squiggle I have ever seen, totally committed to chasing down that dastardly toy.
His long slender legs go in all different directions when he runs and boy is he fast. He insists on being included in whatever we are doing and sits next to whoever is cleaning his litter trays to ensure the job is done properly.
We would love to adopt Percy ourselves but our house is small and we have four cats already and I have two more cats that need rescuing off our street.
