About 🍳Omelette🍳
Omelette is determined to live his life to the fullest! He is an active, affectionate, hilarious monkey who is going to make someone SO happy.
Omelette is a very active boy who is not suited to being left for long periods to entertain himself. He is extremely intelligent and needs mental as well as physical exercise, or he will undoubtedly get up to no good! He’s not all go all the time though and will happily stop what he’s doing to be hoisted over your shoulder for a cuddle and kiss session! Omelette just loves to touch and be touched; he melts into you when you hold him and he likes to reciprocate your affection by licking your nose!
He will need confident existing pets or to be an only child; he is a robust player who isn’t shy to go the full crash tackle from game one, which can be a bit overwhelming for some!
Omelette would do best with friendly, confident, playful cat and or doggo friends, but would also be happy as an only cat, provided there was plenty of human interaction and environmental enrichment.
Omelette arrived in care with symptoms of chronic Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (also known as feline herpesvirus type-1, or “Cat Flu”), which he likely contracted from his mother/the cattery he was bred in. When he arrived in care his symptoms were quite severe (runny nose and eyes/sneezing/blocked nose) but having been given courses of anti-virals and antibiotics, as well as being placed on a good diet with proper face care, his condition has improved significantly in just a few weeks. We believe that once settled in his new home with proper care, Omelette’s symptoms will be completely manageable with a daily face clean and the occasional course of antibiotics. Unfortunately, in situations like this there is no way of knowing how often or how severe any recurring symptoms may be, but minimizing stress and adding some readily available supplements to his diet, should reduce the frequency and severity of any future symptoms.
Below is some Cat Flu basics, but if you are not familiar with Cat Flu, please speak with your vet before applying for Omelette.
“All cats that have been infected with FVR will become carriers of this virus; most carriers will be latent, meaning that the virus will survive in an inactive form within the cat's body. Stress and illness can cause the virus to become reactivated, and if the virus becomes reactivated, the cat will again be infectious. In the majority of cases, the cat will show symptoms of a respiratory infection when the virus is reactivated. However, not all cats with a reactivated FVR infection will show symptoms of disease. All cats that are actively shedding virus present a risk to other cats.”
Providing existing cats are healthy and vaccinated it is highly unlikely that Omelette will infect them, even when symptomatic. The reality is that the majority of the cat population, particularly those that come from breeding catteries, pounds and shelters, have already been exposed to Cat Flu and will remain unaffected by Omelette’s condition.
Omelette is just the most divine little guy, who is quite petite for a Burmese. He eats well, is 100% litter trained and while he can be vocal at times, he's not a super chatty boy and certainly not constantly vocal. He does however love to climb and explore and is probably not suited to an overly cluttered or ‘trinket-centric’ homes, unless you really, really enjoy picking things up off the floor! Omelette is completely happy being an indoor only cat. He Would happily play in a secure outdoor enclosure in the warmer weather, but this is not a requirement.
PLEASE NOTE: Only enquiries that are accompanied by a fully completed adoption questionnaire (http://squishiesrescue.org.au/adoption-application/application-flat-faced-cat/) will receive a reply. Adoption questionnaires that are incomplete or demonstrate that Omelette’s profile has not been read in full will not receive a response.
