About Panda
Panda is a 12 month old male cattle dog mix. His life so far has been in a small pen in the rear of a backyard with no walks and very little human attention. Despite this he is a very happy and loving boy with a gentle temperament. He is a little hesitant when he first meets new people but once he warms to you and trusts you he is very loving and wants attention from you.
Panda loves other dogs and has bonded to another male dog owned by his foster carer. He likes to follow this dog everywhere and gains his confidence through him. He is playful and loves to start games with his foster siblings. He is also fine with cats.
Panda is learning to walk better on the lead and knows how to sit. He stays close by when off lead and is starting to come when called. He is an active boy who will need regular exercise and mental stimulation. As with all young dogs, ongoing training will be required to make sure Panda matures in to a good doggy citizen.
Panda will make a great family dog with some further training. He needs a home with another well behaved dog who he can learn and gain confidence from.
Medical notes
Panda injured his hock (ankle) joint, causing torn ligaments and instability in the joint. With no way to repair the ligaments, a specially made plate and 8 screws were placed across the joint to stabilise it and hopefully fuse it over time.
Though he has made a full recovery and now uses the leg well, the site will need ongoing monitoring for swelling as the screws can become loose over time.
Due to some anatomical issues, the screw ends of the first two screws in the metatarsal bone exited the bone in the incorrect spot and can be felt under the skin. This will also need to be monitored for irritation or swelling.
This operation should limit any severe arthritis developing as Panda ages.
