About Chester
Everyone say hello to Chester! He's a 3 year old male Groodle that's on the look out for a new family after his mature-aged owner realized that the gift of a 30kg fluff ball of goofiness from her son was perhaps not quite the gift she was looking for. We're now on the hunt for a fun-loving family for this hilarious clown of a boy!
Chester is fantastic with his foster carers Border Collies (both boys and girls), and loves the cat too (even if the cat thinks he's super annoying when he barks at her).
Chesters excited yips that sound more like a Chihuahua than a big dog are certainly his biggest downside, so if you aren't committed to keeping up the 'shush's while he learns the virtue of silence, he may not be the dog for you. He gets a bit vocal if something excites him, or if he sees he's missing out on fun he can't get to. The perils of being the only furchild of a retired person is he didnt really ever get used to not being the center of attention, but he's learning that very quickly now.
Chester has taken to crate training like a champ and sleeps all night in his crate without issue. He also travels amazingly in the car in his crate as well.
We've seen zero signs of food or other resource guarding behaviours from this golden boy--he knows sharing is caring.
Chester can be a bit humpy when excited with other dogs, so it's important that any potential family knows how to spot the signs of him getting too worked up and stops him early (most dogs don't like being "loved on" like that). He's otherwise a beautiful pack member and understands both play and go-away cues from the other dogs. For an only child he sure does speak the 'doggo' language well!
On lead Chester is a bit of a wanderer, which is something that's being worked on very consistently by his foster carer. A new mum/dad who understands the importance of sensible leash behaviour for such a big dog is essential in his forever home too. Nobody wants to be the one being dragged by their excited dog.
Chester would do best in a home with owners who have firm boundaries that they consistently enforce, but who are also loving to this sweet natured boy. He has gotten used to being with people all the time as he was owned by a retired lady, but when with his foster siblings he doesnt mind being without a human much at all, so a home with 1-2 other dogs is ideal for Chester.
Chester hasn’t had exposure to kids. He's a bit boisterous so not recommended for small kids
Please note we don’t recommend dog parks for socialisation he is not a dog park dog. Chester needs controlled socialisation
This well-meaning softie is available for meets soon, so reach out if you think you can give him the fun and educational family home he will thrive in 😊
