About Spott
Spott is a 3 and half year-old American Bulldog x Bull Arab. He is the sweetest of boys just looking for a patient human to help him build his confidence.
Spott loves to play fetch (and is learning “give”) as well as games of tug with his rope toy. He knows lots of other commands too: sit, stay, drop (to the ground), paw (for a shake), bed and no. He’s an intelligent boy and is fully house trained.
Spott likes his humans close by but is happy to snooze and amuse himself during the day. He will give you a nudge with his wet nose if he wants to play or is in the mood for a chest and belly rub. He loves a good head scratch too, snuggled up next to you on the couch in the evening.
Spott is treat-motivated which helps with training and his foster family are working with him to build his confidence. He’s fine to be left home alone for a few hours so long as he has something to keep him occupied: an antler, a stuffed Kong and or a puzzle containing small treats all help him to pass the time until you get home.
Where Spott really needs your help is learning to walk nicely on a lead. He’s started to get the hang of loose-lead walking and as is getting more confident every day.
We think Spott wasn’t socialised with other animals when he was a pup so he doesn’t know how to behave around them. In the few months his foster family have been working with him, he has started to become less reactive but his new family will need to be confident walking a large dog and will need to continue to give him plenty of clear direction, encouragement and praise. Once he’s built a bond with you and understands it’s your job to lead him, he will become less reactive but you will need to continue his training to reinforce what he’s already learned.
Spott enjoys an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, sleeping indoors. He comes with a training plan from a dog trainer his foster humans have been working with. They are all sure that, with a little bit of time, effort and love, Spott will turn in to a much more confident boy. He has lots of love to give you in return.
