About Maru
Maru is a very sweet girl. She is very cuddly and wants attention. She likes to sleep on the sofa and the bed for some extra cuddles. During the night she is perfectly crate trained and sleeps the night way in her crate.
Maru came from a rural pound with zero confidence. She has blossomed in care with her confidence but still will need an experienced and dedicated owner to ensure this continues the right way. She is timid with new situations but this doesn’t stop her from trying new things. In a calm and safe environment her confidence increases quickly. Her confidence around people is still increasing and she has realised more people means more attention.
Maru, or Ru for short, is just as her nickname describes - she is very much like a kangaroo. She is very bouncy. When she is excited she does lots of hops and sometimes spin hops. As much as this is all fun and games, she is learning how not to jump up. She knows what the right thing is and when prompted she will sit and wait for pats but she usually needs reminding. She is getting good at sitting and waiting for her food. She always wants anybody else’s food before her own but is getting better at staying at her bowl/ waiting until her foster sibling is finished until she goes to check it out.
Maru picks up new things quickly. She has learnt to sit, lie down and is currently learning ‘on your bed’. She walks on a lead pretty well. Sometimes she will stop to look at people/ dogs when they walk past but this is decreasing as time goes on. Maru is more confident when walking with her foster sibling. This girl does have the energy to keep up. Her evening is filled with play time and of course zoomies round the yard.
Maru loves and plays very well with her foster sibling but lacks dog social skills outside the home. She will respond to her foster siblings cues when it’s too much or she is out of line. However, new dogs she tries to get the upper hand, and does come in over confident and with no manners. She will need controlled socialisation and would benefit immensely from group dog training sessions. She will need an owner, that can read dog body language and who will step in and regulate the play styles and behaviour.
Maru is a sweet girl but does need a committed family to continue her development and sociability. She has missed exposure periods as a pup and will need an owner who has experience and the opportunities to keep working on this. Maru will do well with another older stable dog at home or someone home more than not. Cuddles are a must and an active life to keep her entertained. Maru is currently about 20kg and is not expected to exceed 25kg.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
